It’s holiday time! Christmas songs are everywhere. That’s what December in Kpop entails. And SM Entertainment seems particularly festive this year. The agency blitzes the market with wonderful holiday releases and the worth-waiting 2022 Winter SMTOWN : SMCU Palace album. Will these SME new releases be in your Kpop holiday playlist?
SM Entertainment Holiday Releases and Free Concert
Like previous years, SM Entertainment is wrapping up this year with special releases by various SM artists, including special collaborations. Not only that, but the agency will also welcome 2023 with a free “SMTOWN LIVE” online concert on New Year’s Day. The concert will be available to enjoy by fans worldwide through various platforms, including YouTube, Beyond LIVE, and more.
On December 16, SM Entertainment started to drop “ID Portrait Images,” teasing their upcoming “2022 Winter SMTOWN : SMCU Palace” album, which is set to release on December 26 at 6 PM KST. However, before the album release, SM Entertainment serves us with several Christmas songs and music videos.
“Candy” – NCT Dream
Although @NCTsmtown_DREAM didn’t put the 2022 Winter SMTOWN : SMCU Palace hashtag, this remake of H.O.T’s “Candy” is worth to be added to the Kpop holiday playlist. The energy, vocals, visuals, choreography are just perfect for holiday season.
This song is part of NCT DREAM’s Winter Special Mini Album “Candy.” Aside from the title track, “Graduation, Tangerine Love (Favorite), 입김 (Take My Breath), 문 (Moon), 발자국 (Walk With You) serve a perfect winter album.
“Beautiful Christmas” – Red Velvet x aespa
On December 14, SMTOWN dropped a glimmering Christmas song by Red Velvet and aespa. A lethal combination of two SM Entertainment girl groups brings you a cheerful “Beautiful Christmas.” It is hard not to compare with “Funky Glitter Christmas” by JYP’s girl group NMIXX. Both “Beautiful Christmas” and “Funky Glitter Christmas” are energetic and joyful.
The girls look absolutely stunning in the cute, chic Santa outfits giving us the Mean Girls vibes in a good way. Also, the way Wendy and Ningning serve impressive vocals during the bridge gives us a goosebump. Meanwhile, the other members of the two groups also provide holiday vibes with their superb vocals.
“Celebrate” – Super Junior
Surprise, surprise! Super Junior is already here to celebrate Christmas with all fans worldwide. “Celebrate” is not merely a holiday song, but it also acts as the title of their 11th album vol 2, “The Road: Celebration.”
With the festive yet dreamy energy, “Celebrate” will sound very pleasant as the background while you are doing your holiday shopping. The group’s vocals sound unquestionably great. The way their vocals are layered together feels well-suited to a chilly winter night.
The whole song sounds Christmassy and catchy, especially the chorus part. The “Cele-le-le-brate” has stuck in my mind since I first listened to this song.
Meanwhile, the music video fits the song right with the pastel color palette, bringing gentle hope for Christmas. A heartwarming addition is seeing the husband material of Donghae in the music video.
