Hong Kong Fire Puts 2025 MAMA Awards’ Fate in Doubt
Amidst the Hong Kong fire tragedy, the fate of the 2025 MAMA Awards remains unclear. Some reports indicate that the event will proceed, with the ceremony planning to respectfully honor all those affected by the tragedy and recognize the artists’ hard work. However, CJ ENM has not released an official statement regarding the final decision.
Hong Kong Fire Tragedy and Its Impact on MAMA 2025

On November 26, a serious fire broke out in the Tai Po district of Hong Kong. The fire spread to seven residential buildings. As of November 27, at least 55 people have died, including one firefighter. Sadly, 279 people are still missing, and 45 are in critical condition. Firefighters worked tirelessly to control the flames. In response to the tragedy, the government raised the fire alert to Level 5, the highest warning level. This tragedy has deeply affected the community.
The 2025 MAMA Awards team faced a difficult decision following the tragic fire in Hong Kong. The show, scheduled for November 28-29 at Kai Tak Stadium, is located about 20km from the fire scene. With many artists already having traveled to Hong Kong, a last-minute cancellation became nearly impossible.
According to reports, the production team and agencies are discussing possible changes. The possible measures include:
- Drastic revision of the script to include condolence messages
- Removal of anything related to fire in the production
- Changes to performing acts

However, according to an exclusive report by The Korea Herald, Hong Kong officials and CJ ENM have yet to meet to decide whether the MAMA Awards will take place this weekend. Meanwhile, firefighters are currently battling flames in three apartment buildings following a deadly fire on Wednesday. As a result, with rescue teams working around the clock, the government is prioritizing emergency response over event planning.
Furthermore, CJ ENM hasn’t made any official announcement regarding the awards. They’re waiting for the fire to be completely under control before making any decisions. Right now, every available resource is focused on saving lives and helping affected families.
