Are you a fan of a classic sageuk? Do you enjoy watching royal storylines of the Korean palace in the historical drama? Then, you certainly cannot miss KBS’s upcoming drama, “The King’s Affection” or “Yeonmo”, starring SF9 Rowoon and former child actress Park Eun Bin.
“The King’s Affection” or “Yeonmo” Upcoming KBS Drama Starring Rowoon and Park Eun Bin
SF9 member Rowoon and former child actress Park Eun Bin unite in an upcoming KBS sageuk drama with the title “The King’s Affection” or “Yeonmo”. Both actors have appeared in an enticing teaser video and various still images that appeal to the audience.
Granted, you may think that this drama is another mediocre sageuk with its actors and actresses playing with their flowy hanbok running around the Joseon palace. Well, if that’s the case, prepare to be surprised! Because “The King’s Affection” or “Yeonmo” offers at least 5 unique features you won’t find in other ordinary dramas.
5 Unique Features You Can Only Find in “The King’s Affection” or “Yeonmo” Upcoming Drama
Here are 5 unique features of KBS’ upcoming historical drama, “The King’s Affection” or “Yeonmo”.
1. Park Eun Bin’s Demonstration of Unrivaled Gender and Character Duality
The first and foremost unique feature you can find only in this drama is the duality of its female lead character, played by Park Eun Bin. Indeed, she may not be the first one to play a cross-dressing character. However, Park Eun Bin will have to demonstrate an unrivaled duality performance in both genders and personalities of her roles. And you will be surprised how she played it well in the teaser video.
In this drama, Park Eun Bin will play as both royal twins: Princess and Crown Prince Lee Hwi. The first teaser video of “The King’s Affection” showed Park Eun Bin as the twin princess who is cheerful and carefree. Then, as she stepped further, she turned into the cold and more reserved Crown Prince Lee Hwi.
Now, unlike other cross-dressing characters, the challenge lies in the fact that Park Eun Bin will have to show this duality while keeping in mind that the Princess and Crown Prince Lee Hwi are actually the same person.
“With just her eyes, Park Eun Bin is showing an impressive performance by creating an unapproachable aura of the imperative crown prince Lee Hwi.”

2. Rowoon’s Charismatic Figure
Secondly, in “The King’s Affection,” you will watch SF9 Rowoon playing a role with a more charismatic figure as Jung Ji Woon, the Crown Prince’s teacher.
Moreover, as “The King’s Affection” is Rowoon’s first-ever historical drama, it will give a definite breakthrough for his acting skills. Why? Because here, he’s no longer a mere schoolboy or salesperson but a member of the Sikangwon, an office responsible for the Crown Prince’s education.
“Rowoon is becoming the mood maker of the set by properly embodying Jung Ji-Woon’s personality.”

3. Female Royal King of Joseon
We’ve all seen fake kings, fake queens, or cross-dressing princes and princesses. However, we’ve hardly seen cross-dressing kings ever setting foot in the history of Korean sageuk drama.
Adapted from a manhwa with the same title, “The King’s Affection” or “Yeonmo”, tells a story about twins born in the royal palace of Joseon. Unfortunately, due to the misfortune belief, the twin princess was to be executed. Therefore, she was sent out of the palace secretly in order to save her life.
Well since Kdrama #Yeonmo is already around the corner, I’ll make a summary of the manhwa. Obv they prolly gonna altered the plot here and there but by reading the manhwa you’ll know what to expect #ParkEunBin #ROWOON #namyoonsu #BYUNGCHAN pic.twitter.com/3fuilH1oNx

Unexpectedly, the other twin, the Crown Prince, suddenly dies due to a disease. Therefore, the mother brings the twin Princess back to the palace to disguise as her brother. That way, nobody knows about her brother’s death.
From that day onward, the twin Princess was raised as the Crown Prince Lee Hwi. She closes her heart, hides her emotions, and makes biting remarks out of fear over people discovering her real identity.
That is until she meets Jung Ji Won, a handsome teacher from the Sikangwon. Jung Ji Won may seem bold and tenacious, but he also takes life freely with a more optimistic perspective. This man is the one who can eventually get past Lee Hwi’s emotional wall.
4. SF9 Rowoon Chemistry with His Sunbae, Park Eun Bin, in “The King’s Affection”
Another unique feature to expect in “The King’s Affection” drama is the chemistry between SF9 Rowoon and his sunbae, Park Eun Bin. It will be exciting to watch Rowoon perform his acting skills in his first historical drama alongside Park Eun Bin, a former child actress with years of experience. Better yet, seeing Rowoon matching Park Eun Bin’s acting in “The King’s Affection” will be one exhilarating experience.
Still, we may have nothing to worry about, because according to the production team, Rowoon and Park Eun Bin have shown amazing chemistry on the “The King’s Affection” set.
“Even on the actual set, the beautiful atmosphere surrounding Park Eun Bin and Rowoon brought out the sentimental feelings of love.”

5. Director and Screenwriter Experienced in Multiple Genres
One of many concerns from Kdrama fans regarding webtoon/manhwa-adapted projects is the ability to turn the 2D picturesque and plots into beautiful real-life scenes. Thankfully, “The King’s Affection” or “Yeonmo” falls into the hands of a director and a screenwriter, experienced in multiple genres.
Director Song Hyun Wook is professionally known for his excellent work in various dramas multiple genres. Some examples of his previous works were: Brain (2011), Marriage, Not Dating (2014), Snow Lotus (2015), Introverted Boss (2017), The Beauty Inside (2018), and Undercover (2021).
At the same time, the screenwriter responsible for turning the manhwa into a playable scenario is writer Han Hee Jung. She is known for her work in Clean with Passion for Now (2018) and Gunman in Joseon (2014).
So, what do you think, Kdrama fans? Do the above unique features appeal enough to your attention? Let us wait patiently because “The King’s Affection” will soon premiere on October 11 on Netflix.
In the meantime, let’s revisit Rowoon’s acting skills in his previous dramas.
