“Miracle: Letters to President” Synopsis
“Miracle: Letters to President” is a romantic-drama film based on a true story in the 1980s. The film follows Jun Kyung (Park Jeong Min), a math genius who dreamed of having a train station for his village.
Jun Kyung and his older sister, Bo Kyung (Lee Soo Kyung), lived in the roadless countryside of North Gyeongsang province. The only way for the villagers to reach their homes was by walking along the train tracks, which was very dangerous.
In addition, there was no sign when the train would pass by. So, can you imagine if you walked in the middle of the railroad with your heart pumping and thinking if there would be a train heading you? Scary, isn’t it?
One day, the young Jun Kyung (Kim Kang Hoon) got a trophy. However, when they were walking home on the train tracks, a train passed, and they had to hurry to save themselves. Sadly, Jun Kyung accidentally threw the trophy to the lake below. At that time, Bo Kyung tried to catch her younger brother’s trophy.
From that moment, Jun Kyung was more persistent in writing letters to the president, asking for a train station for their village.
Jun Kyung writes the President to make a train station in his village for years. But, time flies by so fast, and Jun Kyung enrolled in a famous high school in the city nearby. Unfortunately, there’s still no answer from the President. However, he still sent the letters to President after school and got noticed by his schoolmate, Song Ra Hee (Girls’ Generation YoonA).
Along with YoonA, who recognized his extraordinary talents behind his eccentricity and claimed to be his muse, Jun Kyng improved upon his spelling, developed persuasive letter writing skills, competed in a famous scholarship quiz show, and entered the Presidential math contest, with only the goal of having a train station made in his village!
Nevertheless, the effort didn’t stop at having a station built. The station was not a station without a train. Therefore, “there is no giving up, until the train stops!”
“Miracle: Letters to President” Professional Reviews
“It touches the hearts of the viewers slowly and permeates. A genius boy’s ”miracle” brings laughter and sometimes tears. This is the story of the movie The Miracle.”
Kang Min Kyung of Star News.
“The Miracle ends with Richard Sanderson’s famous song “Reality,” which was also used in the movie “La Boum” in the 80s. The lyrics of the song “Dream is my reality” are as beautiful as Junkyung’s dream, but it is not enough to erase the bitter taste.”
Kim Seong Hyun.
“The character shines with the strong performances of the actors. It started out as a simple station, but in the end, it is a story about a dream.”
Kim Ji Eun of Newsis.
“Director Lee Jang-hoon mixed these familiar ingredients with a different seasoning called ”Fantasy” in an unfamiliar bowl based on a true story called ”Simple Station Making”, and finished it well enough to eat.”
Jung Yu Jin of News1.
“Miracle: Letters to President” Viewers Reviews
“The first half of the movie was kind of monotonous for a 2-hour movie. The scenes were too long. So, the story felt too dragging at first. Although later we knew that there was a specific purpose for some scenes, some others like there were just put there to fill the scene duration.
However, starting from the middle of the film, the story got even more interesting! Especially with a sudden twist of plot and genre (from drama-romance-comedy to a sudden fantasy romance) it really made us want to unveil more of the plot and find out what’s going to happen to the characters. And I was really satisfied with the ending.
@KdramaObserver
Overall, I’d give this score 7.5/10, especially due to the plot twist and the details that precede it.”
“Although the title has a serious theme, you will find slight humor that keep you smiling. The friendship of Jun Kyung and Ra Hee is simple and sweet. You will find puppy love between them. Moreover, she also supports him in many ways.
The plot twist that you will find between 1 hour and 57minutes of the film will find you shocked yet moved by the storyline. You will find that every person has a story and feeling they keep. It can be feelings of regrets, guilts, or even sadness.”
Lucky K.
“From the movie, we can learn determination from Jung Jun Kyung; the importance of empathy and role support from Song Ra Hee. Then, caring and loving from Jung Bo Kyun, being honest about our feelings to ourselves and others, and spending time with our family more before there’s regret.”
Park Jihye
