“Little Women” Korean Drama Starring Kim Go Eun Faces Plagiarism Issue
Despite receiving massive attention and praise due to its unique perspective of the classic story by Louisa May Alcott, “Little Women” Korean drama starring Kim Go Eun has been embroidered in a plagiarism controversy.
On September 5, Korean media reported that the production company finally responded to the plagiarism accusation in one of its teaser products.
What Happened?
So, what really happened to “Little Women” Korean drama?
According to the report, the drama previously posted a surprisingly familiar teaser poster.
Previously in July, “Little Women” Korean drama released its first teaser poster. In the poster, the three sisters: Oh In Joo, Oh In Kyung, and Oh In Hye, were shown walking with their determination, leaving giant shadows behind.
Then, it turned out that the same poster design had been available for the promotion of a Japanese cosmetic brand, Shiseido. Shiseido released a poster with the same concept in 2016. And in the poster lay similarly the characters of the original Little Women sisters: Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy.
Looking at both designs, it is extremely hard to deny the similarity between both posters’ concepts and designs. From the choices of colors, poses and directions, even to the involvement of shadows for the characters, the resemblance of both posters are simply uncanny.
So, was the poster for “Little Women” Korean drama starring Kim Go Eun truly a result of plagiarism?
Producer of “Little Women” Korean Drama Starring Kim Go Eun Neither Admit nor Apologize About What Happened
Finally, on the same day, the “Little Women” producer responded to the plagiarism accusation against the drama.
Instead of commenting on the plagiarism issue, the “Little Women” producer simply explained the meaning behind the poster. According to the producer, the poster’s concept was about the tree siblings and their shadows walking towards a bright place. It symbolizes the fight of the Oh sisters in their journey to have a better life in the drama.
However, the producer also stated that they would be careful and conduct more meticulous attention in the future.
“This is our teaser poster with the concept of three siblings and their shadows walking towards a bright place.
It is the creation of the company that is in charge of the design after conducting reviews of various works.
We will pay even more meticulous attention through in-depth prior previews in the future.”
