South Korean prominent director Ahn Gil Ho who helmed various hit dramas, including Happiness and The Glory, now admits to having committed school bullying. After various testimonies from his past victim and ex-girlfriend, The Glory Korean drama director finally released an official statement through his legal representative. THE GLORY Director Bullying Confirmed: Ahn Gil Ho Releases Official Statement
Following the school bullying scandal and controversy, director Ahn Gil Ho of The Glory Korean drama released an official statement.
On March 12, Sports Chosun confirmed The Glory director bullying scandal with a direct interview with Ahn Gil Ho’s legal representative.
In the interview, Ahn Gil Ho’s lawyer admitted that The Glory Korean drama director had committed school violence in the past. Moreover, through his lawyer, the director expressed his wish to apologize personally to the people involved.
“This is lawyer Kim Mun Hui of JIPYONG law firm, and I represent director Ahn Gil Ho. We ask for your understanding regarding the slight delay in announcing our official position.”

The Glory Korean Drama Director Claimed to Have Defended His Girlfriend
Furthermore, Ahn Gil Ho’s lawyer revealed that The Glory director bullying issue started due to defending his girlfriend. According to Ahn Gil Ho, he got emotional after knowing that his girlfriend—whom he had just started dating then—became a subject of mockery at school because of him.
“Director Ahn Gil Ho had just started dating a girlfriend during his overseas study in the Philippines in 1996.
At the time, when he heard that his girlfriend became subject to teasing at school because of him, the director got momentarily emotional and inflicted an unforgettable wound on another person.”

Ahn Gil Ho’s lawyer also stated that The Glory Korean drama director felt remorse about what he did to the people he had hurt in the incident. And if it is possible, he would like to call or meet the people in person.
“The director would deeply ask for forgiveness from the people who had been hurt by this incident. He would also like to meet in person or at least a phone call if possible, to convey his apology.
Finally, he apologized for causing controversy over the unfortunate incident.”

Finally, as for the reason why the statement took time, The Glory Korean drama director Ahn Gil Ho stated through his lawyer was because the incident happened 27 years ago. That is why he was worried about any possible distortion of his memory.
“I am not going to make excuses for every single detail.
It was 27 years ago, so it’s possible for different people to remember different things. That is why I was most afraid that my memory became fuzzy, and so my mind perceived the incident in a distorted way.”

So, now that the bullying scandal is official and Ahn Gil Ho has officially apologized, what about The Glory Korean drama?
While nothing has been announced about its previous possible reevaluation, the Korean drama is staying strong amidst The Glory director bullying scandal.
FlixPatrol recorded on March 12 local time that The Glory Korean drama had risen 1 rank from previously #3 to #2 on Netflix’s Worldwide Top TV Show.
At the same time, viewers still gave mixed reactions towards The Glory director bullying scandal. They believed that the director was only defending his girlfriend at the time. Therefore, it was not bullying, only disputes between schoolmates.
Still, previous statements from Ahn Gil Ho’s ex-girlfriend revealed that she was not bullied by her friends. Instead, the ex-girlfriend claimed that what Ahn Gil Ho did at the time was unjustifiable. That is why criticisms are still pouring against Ahn Gil Ho for this incident.
