The King will finally return very soon! Kpop legendary rapper, G-DRAGON of BIGBANG, will soon return with an epic 2024 solo comeback under the new agency. And apparently, his former label, YG Entertainment, has revealed to have fully transferred the trademark of his name to the artist, shocking the whole Kpop community. So, what’s the reason behind this transfer? And did YG really give GD’s name back for free? Check out the complete story below for the full revelation.
BIGBANG G-DRAGON Prepares for 2024 Solo Comeback
Rumors have been heavily spreading in the global Kpop community that BIGBANG legendary rapper G-DRAGON is making an epic solo comeback in October 2024. And the good news is that he will be able to fully retain his stage name for his future activities.
Everything started when Park Myung Soo, a famous comedian and MC, was hosting his radio show. Suddenly, he mentioned that the legendary BIGBANG rapper, G-DRAGON, had been preparing for a solo comeback, coming out in October 2024.
“I heard that G-DRAGON is coming back in just a couple of months!”
Park Myung Soo.
Over the last few years, Park Myung Soo has been famous as one of the closest friends of G-DRAGON. Therefore, this remark becomes a crucial statement, triggering more massive anticipation from fans. Many even believe that Park Myung Soo deliberately made such a statement as a possible spoiler for G-DRAGON solo comeback.
And yet, according to GD’s current agency, nothing is confirmed as for the official date.
“It’s not true that G-Dragon’s comeback is set for October. The exact timing hasn’t been decided yet. However, we plan to release the new album by the end of this year, as previously mentioned.”
Galaxy Corporation.
FULL Trademark of “G-DRAGON” for the BIGBANG Rapper in 2024 Solo Comeback
Still, what makes this comeback even more exciting is the fact that the BIGBANG rapper would be able to freely use his stage name, G-DRAGON, for all his solo comeback activities under the new agency with no restraint. That is because his former label, YG Entertainment, was revealed to have transferred all the trademark rights for “G-DRAGON” and “GD,” both in Korean and English, as well as all the terms related to the BIGBANG rapper.
Better yet, the company had officially made the transfer without requesting any compensation from the artist.
According to Korean media outlet TenAsia on August 1, this trademark transfer was a generous decision from YG Entertainment.
What’s the REAL Reason?
Further in the report, TenAsia revealed that YG made this decision because all this time, BIGBANG rapper G-DRAGON had been such a symbolic artist for the company, and the name “G-DRAGON” inherently embodies his identity.
In an official statement, both YG and GD’s new agency, Galaxy Corporation, confirmed the transfer. Therefore, there will be no issues for the BIGBANG rapper to use “G-DRAGON” and “GD” for his 2024 solo comeback and other activities even if he is no longer with YG.
“The trademark rights for G-DRAGON and GD have been transferred to the artist.”
YG Entertainment.
“We understand that the trademark rights for ‘G-DRAGON’ have been transferred to us. There is no issue in using the name ‘G-DRAGON’ for his activities.”
Galaxy Corporation.
Was It REALLY YG’s Generosity?
Yet, was it really true that this transfer was only made due to YG’s generosity?
After all, the relationship between GD and YG has been in a terrible state these past few years. Then, everything peaked when YG remained still and silent when GD was wrongly accused in a false drug case last year.
Not only that, but YG CEO Yang Hyun Suk was also furious when Galaxy Corporation stepped up and assisted GD in his case. He demanded GD to end his relationship with Galaxy, which only resulted in GD signing a contract with the new company instead.
And so, was this really YG’s generosity? Or is it simply because YG is losing his power over all the artists that the company had abandoned?
With all the declining revenues and financial crisis, there’s basically nothing else the company can do except for relying on the big names of BIGBANG, 2NE1, BLACKPINK, and wish for BABYMONSTER to skyrocket soon.
In doing so, YG might have to make some crucial compromises, and transferring the “G-DRAGON” trademark to its rightful owner may have become one of these compromises.
But what do you think? Do you think that this transfer is really based on YG’s generosity? Please share your thoughts in the comments.
