Bad news for BTS fans. You may have to wait just a bit longer to see your beloved idols return as a full group. Apparently, HYBE has entirely canceled the date and plans for BTS full group comeback in 2025. And the main reason is because the company wants to prove its global domination even without having to depend to its founding megastar. So, what exactly is HYBE planning? And does it mean that the company is planning to eventually disregard BTS? Explore HYBE’s intention further with us below.
BTS 2025 Full Group Comeback Canceled: HYBE Changes Date and Plans
Korean controversial Kpop label HYBE is planning on changing its plans on the highly-anticipated full-group comeback of BTS in 2025.
On November 5, multiple Korean media outlets reported the annual performance of the controversial label, HYBE.
In the Q3 of 2024, the company pulled in KRW 527.8 billion in sales, with an operating profit of KRW 54.2 billion. While sales dipped 1.9% and operating profit fell 25.4% compared to the same period last year, HYBE’s profit margins have been climbing steadily from 4% in Q1, to 7.9% in Q2, and now hitting 10.3% in Q3. Reportedly, it is a sign that HYBE is optimistic about stronger growth in the latter half of the year.
On the other hand, what makes it surprising is that HYBE had also canceled the plans on BTS full group comeback in 2025.
Along with the revenue announcement, the Chief Financial Officer of HYBE, Lee Kyung Joon revealed the company’s plans for BTS comeback as a full group. And yet, the long-standing and promising plans since before the members’ first military enlistment in 2025 was canceled. Instead, BTS upcoming comeback as a full group will be in 2026.
Aims for Independence without BTS: Will the Company Discard the Group Eventually?
Further in the Q3 earnings call, HYBE discussed BTS’ future activities and company’s plans but refused to discussed the specifics. Not only that but HYBE CFO Lee Kyung Joon also claimed that HYBE’s future revenue will not depend on BTS so much.
According to the CFO, the domination and brand of the remaining HYBE artists have been showing promising growth. That is why while the company is indeed expecting a big comeback of BTS as a full group, HYBE believe that BTS’s comeback will not provide too much contribution as it was before.
Fans’ Furious Reponses
Finally, this statement has resulted in massive shock for fans. Does it mean that HYBE has—subtly but gradually—begun to reduce BTS’s role and presence in the company?
After all, fans had already been suspicious that HYBE had been repeatedly sabotaging the success of most dominating artists. Firstly, it was NewJeans, as the group is now under a massive conflict against the company.
But then HYBE also dialed down the success of BTS, the very megastar of Kpop and the origin of the HYBE’s success today.
If this continues, does it mean that HYBE will eventually discard BTS when deemed no longer necessary? Hence, fans are furious at HYBE, demanding BTS to leave the company.
- “But they’re the agency, so why are they talking about reducing dependency on BTS? Lol, what’s going on here?”
- “Is this just prep in case they can’t renew the contract with BTS?”
- “So, it’s confirmed that BTS won’t renew their contract. Good luck to the members moving on.”
- “The company’s barely surviving thanks to BTS. Just let them go, and if you survive after that, then we’ll acknowledge it.”
- “It would be better for BTS to leave for their own sake. I hope that company ends up with zero artists in the future.”
- “Please, just leave.”
- “No expectations for full-group activities. Let’s leave HYBE and survive individually.”
- “They’ve made Bang Si Hyuk a billionaire; they’ve done enough.”
- After talking so much about a full-group return in 2025, they’re now quietly pushing it back to 2026. Really not a good look.”
- “BTS, please leave HYBE.”
