JYP New Group KickFlip Posts Apology Video Less Than 2 Weeks Post-Debut

The 7 brilliant members of JYP new Kpop group KickFlip have recently bowed their heads in an apology video. Several reports believe KickFlip had no choice but to apologize after an unexpected controversy involving their senior group, TWICE.

On January 31, a post went viral on the Korean online community TheQoo, showing an apology video by JYP new boy group KickFlip. This apology video came from KickFlip’s YouTube live streaming, where the group was greeted and interacted with fans.

And yet, at the end of the livestream, KickFlip members brought up the recent controversy involving a song by TWICE, “Cheer Up.” Then, they bowed their heads down in a sincere apology.

What Happened in the TWICE Dance Controversy?

If you haven’t heard about the controversy yet, KickFlip was under massive criticism after failing to perform the choreography for “Cheer Up” by TWICE.

During an appearance on the “Idol Radio” program, members of JYP new Kpop group KickFlip attempted to dance to TWICE “Cheer Up” choreography. However, their performance was deemed awkward and lacking, especially by TWICE’s Korean fans.

And so, criticisms started pouring against the JYP group members, resulting in the apology video KickFlip then posted.

More Mized Reactions About the Apology Video from KickFlip Members

On the other hand, after JYP new Group KickFlip members posted the apology video, it resulted in more mixed reactions in Korean online communities.

Unnecessary Apology & Overreaction

Many commenters believe the apology was unnecessary and the situation was blown out of proportion. They argue that KickFlip members have the right not to know the choreography and that this shouldn’t be a big deal.

Not only that, but some also express frustration at JYP for forcing idols to apologize for minor issues, which they see as a recurring pattern.

Speculation About Viral Marketing

Meanwhile, other comments even suspected that JYP had intentionally made KickFlip members apologize as a form of “noise marketing” to generate buzz around the new Kpop group. They pointed out that the controversy has made the group go viral. And they believe that JYP, with its industry experience, wouldn’t let it happen by accident.

Possible Damage Control During KickFlip’s Crucial Moment

At the end of the day, it is true that this TWICE “Cheer Up” dance controversy happened at a critical moment for KickFlip. With less than two weeks since their debut, the group would naturally want to avoid unnecessary issues and negative attention.

While some fans believe the outrage was exaggerated, the backlash was undeniably real. Many Korean netizens on X reposted and mocked KickFlip members, causing the situation to spiral out of control. Given the rising criticism, JYP Entertainment likely saw the apology as a form of damage control rather than a marketing ploy.

Even if the decision seemed excessive to some, JYPE may have felt it was the best course of action to protect the group’s image during such a crucial time.

Do You Think It Was Necessary?

However, this controversy brings us to the question: Should Kpop idols be pressured to apologize for every minor misstep? Doesn’t it only escalate the situation into a bigger problem instead?

Most importantly, does this kind of controversy highlight deeper issues within Kpop culture—where rookie idols are expected to be flawless from the very beginning?

Because previously, KickFlip had—in fact—faced another controversy against their debut style and appearance. So, does it mean that the Kpop industry now demands idols to be perfect from the very beginning without leaving chances for improvements?

What do you think? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments.

In the meantime, JYP new group KickFlip members have posted another video. Here, they danced perfectly not only to TWICE “Cheer Up” but also to choreography from their other senior idols: Stray Kids, 2PM, Rain, and even JYP’s very own Park Jin Young.
