Hyundai x Boston Dynamics Acquisition
Back in late 2019, Hyundai announced its ‘Strategy 2025’ roadmap to transition into ‘Smart Mobility Solution Provider,’ which aims to “foster Smart Mobility Service and Smart Mobility Device as two important business pillars.”
On June 21, Hyundai Motor Group, a multi-billion dollar motor company based in South Korea has officially acquired Boston Dynamics for more than 1.1 billion dollars.
Moreover, Hyundai believes robotics a crucial part of its business. As cited in the Hyundai news,
With the acquisition of Boston Dynamics, Hyundai Motor will expand its new robotics business to provide customers with exciting mobility experiences. We look forward to exploring new marketing opportunities to communicate with millennials and Gen Z, in particular, about the enormous potential offered by Hyundai’s new robotics in daily life, enabling progress for humanity.

Hyundai has already started developing its robotics programs. The company has campaigned to integrate robots and wearable technology into the car manufacturing process to help workers with repetitive tasks. One of them is VEX, a wearable robot that is an exoskeleton vest designed to assist production line workers.
Boston Dynamics is a famous robotic company. Two of the most famous creations are Atlas and Spot. These robots can do mind-blowing movements like flipping, dancing, fetching, and jumping.
Back in 2017, Elon Musk retweeted and commented about robot Atlas’s ability to back-flipping.
This is nothing. In a few years, that bot will move so fast you’ll need a strobe light to see it. Sweet dreams… https://t.co/0MYNixQXMw
