Organizing social gatherings and special events is a common thing among Kpop fans. A local fandom usually rents or borrows a cafe for special occasions, such as the idol’s birthday. However, one fan got rejected for having a ‘birthday cafe’ due to an unpopular idol or group.
Renting a Cafe to Celebrate Kpop Idol’s Birthday Is Common, but…
When fans rent or borrow a cafe for a special occasion, such as an idol’s birthday, they will decorate the cafe with various photos and merchandise of the idol. Then, they will open up the cafe for fellow fans to come and enjoy coffee and desserts.
On this kind of occasion, the fans will be able to enjoy the gathering with fellow fans, as well as the cafe menu and merchandise. On the other hand, the cafe also garners more customers since fans are likely to be excited to visit this ‘Birthday Cafe.’ Everyone gets the advantage.
However, creating such occasions is a real struggle for fans of more unpopular or underrated Kpop group. At times, they suffer and experience unfairness.
One fan got rejected for having a ‘Birthday Cafe’
This fan took an online community to share the sorrow of being fans of unpopular or underrated Kpop group. On the post, the netizen shared a phone message conversation.
According to the conversation, it seemed to happen in December 2021. The fan was going to rent the cafe to celebrate Kpop idol’s birthday in March 2022, but got rejected.
The fan wrote, “Hello! I want to inquire about the ‘Birthday Cafe’! Is it possible to open it for two days on March 12 and 13, 2022?”
The cafe soon responded, “Yes hello! Space rental for those dates are available, Who is are the artist you want to hold this for?”
The fan then replied, “Rocket Punch’s Suyun!”
The cafe didn’t respond for about ten minutes, and then responded, “Oh sorry 🙁 there is another artist event planned for those dates.”
Initially, the cafe stated that the space was available for ‘Birthday Cafe’ on the mentioned dates. However, they soon changed and said that it was unavailable after hearing which Kpop idol the ‘Birthday Cafe’ was for.
What did netizens say?
Netizens have different opinions on this matter. Some can feel the annoyance and suffering of the fan. Meanwhile, some others try to understand the cafe owner.
“For the cafe, a lot of fans need to come and buy their drinks and desserts for it to be worth having that event. So after hearing the name of the idol group, they figured it’s not worth it because they won’t sell more coffees than when just have their shop open to the public,”
Netizen’s comment
“I understand the cafe owner is doing business. But you can ask who the artist first, then ask for the date, so that you can refuse and say it’s booked. It won’t hurt anyone.”
