Here’s how the “All of Us Are Dead” director Lee Jae Kyoo explained extensively about the series’ behind the scenes meaning.

“All of Us Are Dead” Shows How Young People React to Desperate Situations
During the press conference, “All of Us Are Dead” director Lee Jae Kyoo stated that he felt pressure to turn the famous webtoon into a drama. That is why he repeatedly consulted with the original author, Joo Dong Geun, to make a better portrayal.
“I would be lying if I said I felt no pressure in reproducing the legendary webtoon into a 12-part Netflix series. However, I consulted with the author himself, Joo Dong Geun, numerous times to create the series, and I am excited to showcase ‘All of Us Are Dead’ to the viewers.”

Furthermore, the director also mentioned that “All of Us Are Dead” is an excellent portrayal of how high school students react to desperate situations. While most zombie movies and series usually revolve around adults, “All of Us Are Dead” shows what happens if high school students experience such terrifying situations.
“Up until today, most zombie movies revolved around adults. However, our series follows the story of young students who have yet to fully mature and be socialized.
When adults experience such a dangerous situation, they will all find a safer way. But it’s not the case with children. So sometimes, they make riskier decisions. That is why I wanted to make a story that will lead people to think about what it means to be an adult and a human by watching the decisions and actions the children make in a life-or-death situation.”

Director Lee Jae Kyoo Explained the Behind the Scenes Meaning About Bullying Message in “All of Us Are Dead”
Moreover, director Lee Jae Kyoo also explained that he wanted the viewers to focus on the primary message about bullying in Korea. He believed that bullying happens not only in school but also in society.
“I don’t think bullying happens only in school. As a matter of fact, it also occurs in society. People collectively bonding in groups with selfishness bring such issues to society in general.
Indeed, some might think that it’s only a story about kids in school. However, I hope the viewers will be able to find it relevant even as adults.”

What Makes “All of Us Are Dead” Extremely Terrifying
Finally, while there are numerous movies and series with the same genre, “All of Us Are Dead” has proven to be a few zombie series that managed to scare the hell out of everyone. According to the director, they put a lot of effort, especially for the scary part.
“We put a lot of effort into depicting the zombies in the series. We’ve worked with a team, which included an actor and a choreographer, to create the movements of zombies.
I had never spent whole days on rehearsals previously, but we did spend whole days just rehearsing for this one. Also, the staff and I tried to do many one-takes to deliver dynamic and lively action scenes. The tryouts with hundreds of zombie actors were a challenge, but their efforts made everything possible.
I will say for sure that it has more detail and better movements than any other Korean zombie works.”
