The Korean Business Research Institute conducted a comprehensive analysis of 50 variety stars’ brands from July 5 to August 5, 2023. The study evaluated consumer engagement, media volume, interaction, and social conversations using 40,205,602 brand big data. The results revealed a 9.66% decrease compared to July, which recorded 44,505,049 brand big data.
The institute calculates the Brand Reputation Index using brand data and studying consumer behavior. It considers crucial factors like participation, communication, media, and social value. The variety stars’ brand reputation index is determined based on participation, media, communication, and community indexes. The analysis also includes Brand Monitor and brand value evaluation by the Korea Brand Forum.
Top 5 Most Popular Korean Variety Stars
According to the analysis, Yoo Jae Suk, Tak Jae Hoon, Kim Jong Kook, Lee Chun Soo, and Park Myung Soo dominated the list of the top five Korean variety stars in August.
1. Yoo Jae Seok
- Participation Index: 305,663
- Media Index: 491,321
- Communication Index: 815,523
- Community Index: 930,896
Yoo Jae Suk’s brand reputation achieved the top spot in August 2023, though it decreased by 3.77% from 2,642,948 in July to 2,543,403 this month. The link analysis revealed that the entertainer had a strong association with terms such as “donate,” “talk,” and “be sincere.”
Moreover, the keyword analysis also highlighted Yoo Jae Suk’s popular keywords, including “PLAYou,” “win the lottery,” and “excuse.” Notably, Yoo Jae Suk’s brand achieved an impressive positive-negative ratio of 90.28% positive sentiment.
Last month, Yoo Jae Seok won the Best Male Entertainer at the 2023 Blue Dragon Series Awards. Additionally, he made a significant donation of 100 million won towards water damage recovery efforts.
2. Tak Jae Hoon

Tak Jae Hoon maintained his second-place position on the list with a brand reputation index of 1,989,643. However, it experienced an 8.76% decline compared to his brand reputation index of 2,180,756 in July.
In addition to his impressive standing in the industry, Tak Jae Hoon has also been selected as one of the judges for the dance music survival program “Show King Night.” This program has been airing since July 21 on MBN.
3. Kim Jong Kook

- Media Index: 327,742
- Communication Index: 681,967
- Community Index: 551,972
Kim Jong Kook maintained his position in third place, with a 13.04% increase in brand reputation. His brand reputation index rose from 1,601,364 in July to 1,810,117 in August.
Moreover, Kim Jong Kook has joined the cast of JTBC’s travel reality show, “Couriers in Mongolia.” This exciting show, featuring Hong Kyung Min, Jang Hyuk, Cha Tae Hyun, Hong Kyung In, and Kang Hoon, is scheduled to premiere on August 18.
4. Lee Chun Soo
- Participation Index: 272,538
- Media Index: 325,639
- Communication Index: 478,446
- Community Index: 374,592
Lee Chun Soo achieved a remarkable 181.09% increase in brand reputation, reaching 1,451,215 this month from 516,279 in July.
Last month, Lee Chun Soo and his manager garnered attention when they witnessed a hit-and-run incident on the Olympic Highway in Seoul. Despite the danger, Lee Chun Soo and his manager swiftly took action as a responsible citizen. They pursued the drunk driver, who had collided with a taxi and attempted to flee the scene. Thanks to their quick thinking and bravery, the former soccer player and manager caught the perpetrator and handed him over to the police. In recognition of their heroic actions, both Lee Chun Soo and his manager received rewards from the government.
5. Park Myung Soo
- Participation Index: 64,185

Park Myung Soo maintained his fifth position this month with a brand reputation index of 1,330,354. However, there was a slight decline of 8.27% compared to July’s index of 1,450,222.
Further, Park Myung Soo has joined the MC lineup for MBC Every1’s upcoming variety show, “I’m Angry Now,” alongside Lee Kyung Gyu, Kwon Yul, and Dex. This new show is scheduled to premiere on August 15, 2023.
