BARGAIN Wins Best Screenplay at 2023 Cannes Series Festival (Canneseries)
Once again, South Korea has marked its name in the global entertainment industry with a big win at the 2023 Cannes Series Festival, commonly known as Canneseries.
Sports Chosun reported on April 20 that Bargain Korean drama had attracted massive attention at the 2023 Canneseries Festival. That is because the TVING’s original mini-series had secured the Best Screenplay award in the Feature Film competition category.
The closing ceremony of the 6th Cannes International Series Festival 2023 (Caneseries) was held in the afternoon of April 19 (local time) at the Lumiere Grand Theater in Cannes, France. During the closing ceremony, the festival announced that the Best Screenplay award for this year was ready to grab for the Bargain Korean drama team.
FIRST Korean Drama to Win the Award – History was Made!
Furthermore, what is most crucial about this achievement is that Bargain Korean drama has marked its name as the first Korean production to win the Canneseries for the very first time in history. With this achievement, TVING has also proved that South Korea’s original OTT series was ready to compete in the global box office market.
Bargain Korean drama director and co-writer Jeon Woo Sung took the podium to receive the award at the closing ceremony. Then, he expressed his pride and gratitude for the award, giving a shoutout to the two remaining co-writers of the series, Choi Byung Yoon and Kwak Jae Min.
“’Bargain’ is a unique project with a concept that is one of a kind. So, these invitation and recognition have brought me great honor. Thank you so much for blessing us with this award.
Byung Yoon, Jae Min, we did it!”

The Only Korean Drama Invited to the Cannes Series Festival (Canneseries) 2023
Previously, Bargain Korean drama had gained massive attention for being the only Korean content production to join the Canneseries competition.
Despite having less popularity compared to other mini-series last year, Bargain Korean drama has attracted a 3-minute standing ovation from over 2,300 audiences at its Canneseries 2023 official screening on April 16 at the Grand Auditorium Louis Lumière in Cannes, France.
Various major foreign media outlets, including Le Figaro and Panorama, demonstrated high praise for the project. These media analyzed the stunning charm of Bargain Korean drama from various angles. They highly praised Bargain Korean drama and its unconventional concept and the passionate performance of the actors, especially the villains.
“We are happy and proud that we can continue the K-content syndrome by becoming the first Korean OTT drama production to win the Canneseries.
In the future, we will continue to do our best to promote the high capability and global competitiveness of TVING’s high-quality content. And we will discover and deliver more contents that will bring excitement and touching emotions to the worldwide audience.”

BARGAIN Storyline
As an adaptation of a 2015 short movie of the same name, Bargain Korean drama depicts the story of a dangerous organ trafficking bargain.
As No Hyung Soo came to a motel to enjoy Park Joo Young’s service, many people suddenly surrounded him. These people came to buy his organs, bargaining the price with Park Joo Young with an on-site auction.
Suddenly, amidst the horrible bargaining process, an earthquake occurred. And despite the ongoing bargain, these people must struggle to survive amidst the collapsed building.
Actors Jin Seon Kyu and Jeon Jong Seo were the main characters in the Bargain Korean drama. Along with the two rising celebrities, actor Chang Ryul who gained attention with his intense acting in My Name with Han So Hee, once again showed a praiseworthy performance in the mini-series.
Finally, following its first broadcast on TVING in October last year, the 2023 Cannesseries-winner Bargain Korean drama will be available worldwide this summer via Paramount+.
