And yet, behind all the glory, unexpected whispers emerged within the global music communities, questioning whether his participation in the event was truly organic. Dive deeper into the story with us in the following report.
BTS Jin as 2024 Paris Olympic Torchbearer: Behind the Scene
Following his historic return from the military service, BTS eldest hyung Jin has immediately gained global attention, especially with his heartwarming homecoming and the unexpected incident occurring at his fan meeting.
And yet, what turned him from a global music star into a national legend was when BTS Jin participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics as the torchbearer. Showcasing his impressive charisma and worldwide handsome visual, BTS Jin carried the Olympic torch with exquisite elegance from Rue de Rivoli to Carrousel Square before passing it to Sandra Laoura, former French ski champion.
Jin’s participation in the 2024 Olympics has elevated his value as one of South Korea’s national treasures. With him joining the event, BTS Jin has attracted more fans and spectators, resulting in more global exposure not only from sports but also from the global entertainment community.
Due to this impressive Jin effect, some parts of the international public started questioning what was behind Jin’s participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics. According to several Korean media outlets, questions started emerging about whether Jin’s participation was truly organic or involved some manipulation from the South Korean government.
Did the Government REALLY Pay Him?
So, was it true that the South Korean government really paid BTS Jin to join as the 2024 Olympics torchbearer?
The answer is absolutely not.
Actually, all the Olympic torchbearers were chosen based on recommendations from the Olympic Organizing Committee, official sponsors, or local government members in France.
For instance, the organizing committee suggested French soccer star Thierry Henry. Meanwhile, a sponsor, Meng Niu, recommended Chinese actress Tang Wei. And even American rapper Snoop Dogg got a special recommendation from the local government of Saint-Denis.
So, what about Jin?
Behind his torchbearer position, it was the Korean giant mogul Samsung Electronics that recommended BTS Jin. This legendary Korean electronic brand is also one of the official sponsors for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In an official statement to the media, Samsung Electronics claimed that they were the ones recommending Jin to the committee. After all, Jin is one of the BTS members who has been Samsung’s official brand ambassador to this day.
“We recommended BTS Jin since he is one of our public brand ambassadors. Not only that, but he has also been actively participating in activities that perfectly embody the Olympic spirit.”
Samsung.
Along with Samsung’s statement, the Korean government also released an official statement, drawing the line of their involvement.
“When we look at the Paris Organizing Committee or similar organizations, they are very strict in their selection process. So, why would the government intervene in the torch relay?
This is not an issue where the country can get involved.”
Yoo Seung Min, member of the Korean International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athlete Commission.
Finally, it’s clear that the government has nothing to do with Jin’s joining the 2024 Olympics. And the rumors circulating are false and baseless allegations.
