6. Yoo Seung Ho as Lee Sun in “The Emperor: Owner of the Mask”
With years and years of experience since he was a child actor, Yoo Seung Ho has played many different kinds of roles in the royal family. He once wore the royal dragon robe as a young spoiled King, indeed. However, King Lee Sun was his best masterpiece.
Bearing the royal red dragon robe on his shoulder seems to be a child’s play for Yoo Seung Ho. As one of the best Korean actors for historical sageuk drama, the role of King Lee Sun in “The Emperor: Owner of the Mask” just seems so natural for the young actor. His gentle gaze perfected his duality, and especially when Lee Sun had to live outside the palace, Yoo Seung Ho managed to perform his role as a commoner without losing the hidden traits of the royal Joseon King.
7. INFINITE L Kim Myung Soo as Lee Sun in “The Emperor: Owner of the Mask.”
Kudos to INFINITE L Kim Myung Soo, who played the other Lee Sun with Yoo Seung Ho in “The Emperor: Owner of the Mask.” Even though his role was not the real King in the historical drama, as one of the best Korean male actors, Kim Myung Soo managed to perform the role of the fake King Lee Sun with his utmost charisma and elegance.
8. Im Si Wan as Wang Won in “The King in Love.”
You may think that since they’re at the country’s highest position, all Kings will always get what they want no matter what kind of method they use. Unfortunately, King Wang Won in “The King in Love” is not one of those lucky Kings, and Im Si Wan managed to make our hearts break with all the issues he faces in the drama.
Friendships, love, and duty to his country: Im Si Wan excelled in portraying all these conflicts hidden in his heart. Moreover, he showed us the true charismatic figure of King Wang Won in “The King in Love” without losing the human side of the role.
Im Si Wan truly deserved to be one of the best Korean male actors who played the most charismatic Kings in historical sageuk drama.
9. Kim Min Gue as Lee Kyung in “Queen: Love and War”
You may have indeed fallen in love with Kim Min Gue through “A Business Proposal”. But long before his popularity skyrocketed, he had managed to nail his role as King Lee Kyung in “Queen: Love and War”.
Passionate, determined, and kindhearted, Kim Min Gue was not only charismatic but he also managed to bring out all these special traits of King Lee Kyung in the historical drama. In addition, his strong expressions and alluring gaze have created a brand-new persona of Kim Mi Gue that you have never seen before.
10. Yeon Woo Jin as Lee Yeok in “Queen for Seven Days.”
Playing alongside Park Min Young, one of the best Korean male actors, Yeon Woo Jin has proven his hundreds-award worth as King Lee Yeok in the historical sageuk drama, “Queen for Seven Days”.
Throughout his entire career, Yeon Woo Jin seemed to have mastered the role of a reserved person with a conflicted past and inner battle. And in this historical sageuk drama, Yeon Woo Jin brings out the best of his abilities that he became King Lee Yeok himself.
Such a marvelous performance!
SPECIAL TRIBUTE!
Park Eun Bin as King Lee Hwi in “The King’s Affection”
Indeed, since we’re talking about the best Korean male actors who played Kings in the historical drama, you may think, what is Park Eun Bin doing here? Still, wait a minute and hear us out.
Over the course of Korean drama history, there has NEVER been a role of a female King of Joseon. That is why when “The King’s Affection” was first announced, there had been a huge expectation as to who would take on the character.
And Park Eun Bin was the PERFECT choice. From the first episode to the last, the experienced actress had TRULY nailed her role as BOTH twins: male and female Lee Hwi.
Growing up and spending most of her life in front of the camera, actress Park Eun Bin boldly accepted the role of King Lee Hwi in “The King’s Affection” (Yeonmo) only for the fact that it was her ONLY opportunity to wear the royal dragon robe. And in fact, it was all worth it. Her stern determination and powerful grace seemed to wonderfully fit Lee Hwi’s role, covering the fact that her body looked too petite to fit the dragon robe.
Therefore, having perfectly aced Lee Hwi’s role resulted Park Eun Bin to win the Top Excellence honor at KBS Drama Awards 2021 and nominated as Best Actress for Baeksang Arts Awards 2022.

Ryuk Deok Hwan as King Gongmin in sageuk drama Faith ( The Great Doctor), where he acted along Lee Min Ho and Kim Hee Sun. His portrayal of the young king, struggling to find his way to become a real king, was an extraordinary performance, both moving and powerful.
