In a Korean forum, “Big Mouth” Korean drama became the main spotlight due to a remark from Lee Jong Suk character, Park Chang Ho. This specific remark from the Korean drama raises concerns from the public that “Big Mouth” has been allegedly offending Thai culture.
What REALLY Happened?
In Episode 2 of “Big Mouth” Korean drama, there was a scene where Park Chang Ho (Lee Jong Suk) confronted a death-row criminal. During this scene, Park Chang Ho directed an offensive question to the criminal to trigger his anger.
But that was when it all went wrong.
In the question, Park Chang Ho asked whether the criminal’s mother really ate seaweed soup after she gave birth to him. However, in the conversation, Park Chang Ho unnecessarily brought up a meal from another culture: Tom Yum Goong.
“Did your mother eat seaweed soup after giving birth to you? I’m really curious about what she ate to have given birth to a psycho like you.
Did she eat Tom Yum Kung? Or Seonji Soup?”

For your information, most Korean mothers commonly eat seaweed soup after giving birth to honor Samsin Halmoni, the goddess who protects women and helps them through pregnancy and childbirth. You may have noticed this character in several Korean dramas, most notably in “Lovers of the Red Sky”.
A Controversy that Offends Thai Fans Due to Remarks from Lee Jong Suk Character, Park Chang Ho
During the scene in Episode 2, Park Chang Ho asked the criminal whether his mother had eaten the soup for her to give birth to a psychopath like him. However, the public raised concerns about the inclusion of Tom Yum Goong in the remark. They believed that it was unnecessary and deemed offending toward Thai culture.
A Thai fan particularly brought up the controversy on social media, asking if “Big Mouth” Korean drama did it on purpose.

This issue immediately circulated on forums and social media and fans began raising concerns about the remark.
Indeed, there is also an assumption that with the addition of Seonji Soup at the end of the sentence, the writer might want to refer to spicy food for the context. However, bringing foreign culture into the context was deemed offensive and unnecessary, no matter the intention.
