Kpop Music Critic Kim Young Dae Caught Between BTS and NewJeans Fandom Wars
The escalating fandom wars between two Kpop stars, BTS and NewJeans, have reportedly affected one of Kpop’s most prominent music critics, Kim Young Dae.
On July 1, a post emerged in the Korean online community TheQoo, mentioning that prominent music critic Kim Young Dae had been the victim of malicious online attacks and comments. This post immediately went viral in Kpop communities after they realized that Kim Young Dae had only been caught in the fandom wars between BTS and NewJeans fans.
According to the report, Kim Young Dae was posting a positive review on X (formerly Twitter) about NewJeans’ Japanese concert. In the review, music critic Kim Young Dae also praised ADOR CEO Min Heejin for creating such a unique and timeless concept for NewJeans.
“Min Hee Jin has been carefully perfecting the essence of aesthetics through NewJeans for a long time.
This transcends time and space, yet it is universally recognized and shared in people’s minds and emotions as a perfect example of modernity. It is something that can become anything due to its absolute flexibility.
Additionally, it’s not achieved through technical or systematic methods but from an aesthetic standpoint, making it even more remarkable. And it’s done in a way that everyone can easily understand.”

BTS Fans Reportedly Unhappy with the Praise
Apparently, some Kpop fans were not happy with the praise. They started attacking Kim Young Dae with malicious comments that he finally gave up and deleted his X post. According to the OP, these attacks were committed by Kpop supporters from the BTS fandom, ARMY.
Along with the screenshot of Kim Young Dae’s post, the OP also presented evidence of the malicious comments directed at Kim Young Dae.
And so, Korean netizens began criticizing the alleged BTS fans for igniting more Kpop fandom wars with NewJeans supporters.
- “Again? Really?”
- “Do critics have to please them too? Seriously, come on.”
- “Why are they targeting Kim Young Dae like that?”
- “This isn’t even shocking anymore.”
- “I guess toxic fandoms don’t care about nationality…”
- “They’re ruining BTS’s image. Why can’t they just like BTS without also obsessing over HYBE? The minute BTS’s contract ends, their relationship with HYBE is over.”
- “Why are they acting this way? I don’t think he said anything offensive. I’m genuinely curious.”
- “As a fan of both BTS and NewJeans, I don’t understand why international fans equate HYBE with BTS. It’s so frustrating because this misunderstanding is so widespread, but it’s not true.”
