Ministry of National Defense Agency for Killed-In-Action Recovery & Identification
The Ministry of National Defense’s Agency for KIA (Killed-in-action) Recovery & Identification is an organization dedicated to recovering and identifying the remains of Korean soldiers who sacrificed their lives during past conflicts.
Their noble mission is to bring closure to the families of fallen soldiers. The agency locates and identifies their remains and ensures proper burial and commemoration. The agency also plays an essential role in preserving the historical legacy of courageous individuals.

3rd Public Relations Ambassador of Korea’s Killed-In-Action Recovery Agency
The first appointed public relations ambassador of the MND Agency for Killed in Action Recovery & Identification was Professor Seo Gyeong-deok from Sungshin Women’s University in 2016. In 2021, the late Song Hae succeeded him. Unfortunately, veteran entertainer Song Hae, who held the position in 2021, passed away in June 2022.
Continuing the legacy of his predecessors, 28-year-old Kim Namjoon will serve as the third honorary public relations ambassador. As the newly appointed ambassador, RM of BTS will actively engage in various public relations activities. His primary objective is to raise public awareness about the vital project of excavating remains and to garner support for the agency’s dedication to preserving the memory of fallen soldiers.
BTS RM’s Commitment to Korea
Following his remarkable tenure as the leader of BTS, RM stands out as the ideal candidate to take on the role of honorary ambassador for the MND Agency for KIA Recovery & Identification. With his vast knowledge and significant influence on social media and youth, RM will effectively communicate the importance of preserving fallen soldiers’ memory and promoting the excavation team’s work.
Moreover, RM has always been proud of his Korean heritage. He has spoken openly about his deep-rooted passion for Korean history and culture. He also conveyed his aspiration to make a difference in the world. Thus, RM’s appointment as the honorary ambassador is a way for him to continue to give back to Korea. In particular, to help the country heal from the wounds of the Korean War.
However, this is not the first RM’s involvement in a project of national significance. In September 2021, the Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) of South Korea revealed that RM generously donated KRW 100 million (approx. USD 72,100) to the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation (OKCHF). And as a result of his contribution, a royal bridal gown (Hwarot) from the Joseon dynasty era, previously held by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, was able to return to South Korea for restoration.
BTS RM Appointment Ceremony
RM of BTS serves as an inspiring role model for young individuals. His journey showcases that achieving success and positively impacting the world can go hand in hand. Thus his upcoming appointment as honorary ambassador of MND’s Agency marks another remarkable accomplishment for him.
The official ceremony is scheduled for June 1st at 11:00 AM (KST). In addition, it will be available on live stream on MND Agency’s official YouTube channel.
BTS 10th Anniversary
Kim Namjoon, widely recognized as RM, debuted as the popular boy band BTS leader in 2013. In December 2022, he released his highly anticipated debut solo album, Indigo.
This appointment is significant for BTS, as they will soon mark their 10th anniversary on June 13. It’s worth mentioning that BTS members Jin and J-Hope are currently serving in the military. This highlights the connection between BTS and the public relations ambassador of the MND Agency for KIA Recovery & Identification.
