BTS Suga Faces Criminal Charges for DUI Scooter Drunk Driving Scandal – More News Today!
Police have confirmed in the latest news today that BTS Suga will be facing criminal charges for his DUI drunk driving scandal after the scooter fact reveal.
Previously, the case has caused some confusion due to the alleged lies BTS Suga and BIGHIT told in their official statement. While the BTS rapper claimed to have driven an “electric kickboard,” CCTV footage and an official statement from the police revealed that he was actually riding an “electric scooter.”
Apparently, the difference between these two vehicles was exceptionally crucial to determine the consequences Suga must face for his irresponsible act.
Then, on August 9, a representative from the Yongsan Police Station updated the latest news on the BTS Suga DUI scooter case in a phone interview with Dispatch.
According to the police, the fact that BTS Suga rode an electric scooter means he was officially driving a vehicle under alcohol influence. That is because the electric scooter BTS Suga rode was considered a “motorized bicycle.”
“Kickboards vs Scooter”: BTS Suga Officially Facing Severe DUI Drunk Driving Punishment for the Scandal
In South Korea, there’s a big difference between electric kickboards and electric scooters. Electric kickboards fall under low-speed “Personal Mobility” devices, with a maximum speed of less than 25 km/h and a weight of less than 30kg (66lbs).
On the other hand, the electric scooter that Suga was driving is classified as a “motorized bicycle.” In this case, he will face criminal charges equivalent to those for drunk driving in an automobile.
“Suga was driving an electric scooter. Upon examination, it was determined that the device does not fall under the PM category.
If he had been driving a PM, he would have only faced administrative penalties. However, since his scooter is not a PM, he is subject to criminal charges for drunk driving.”

Not to mention, his BAC was through the roof at 0.227%—almost three times higher than the license-revocation limit of 0.08%. According to the Korean Road Traffic Act, if the blood alcohol concentration exceeds 0.08%, the individual is subject to imprisonment for 1 to 2 years or a fine ranging from 5 million to 10 million KRW.
As of this time, the schedule for the police investigation has not yet been determined. After all, they have planned to assess the overall circumstances, including the extent of damage caused, the distance driven, the details of the incident, and any prior offenses. All these will become crucial factors in determining the severity of Suga’s criminal punishment.
Official Complaints to the Military Manpower Administration for Negligence of Duty
On top of everything, the latest news today revealed that BTS Suga is also facing official complaints due to negligence of duty.
On August 12, the Seoul Regional Military Manpower Administration confirmed to have received an official complaint, requesting a full investigation into “the management of Suga’s service agency” and “Suga’s service status.”
“Suga and his agency, BigHit Music, have previously been criticized for ‘downplaying and giving false explanations,’ which some fans see as a sign of ‘privilege and entitlement.’
The claim that ‘Suga didn’t realize it was illegal to use an electric scooter while intoxicated’ could suggest that he has driven the same scooter after drinking during his service as a social service agent. This raises concerns that Suga may not have properly fulfilled his duties the day after drinking and that his service agency might have given him special treatment.
Therefore, a thorough investigation is necessary.
We urge a full investigation into the management of Suga’s service and his agency’s oversight, in line with the relevant Military Service Act provisions and Social Service Agent regulations.
If any illegal activities are discovered, we demand that they be reported to the authorities and dealt with strictly.”
