What is BTS Universe YOUTH Drama Story?
Firstly, the story in BTS Universe YOUTH Korean drama fiction. It is not about the real-life story of 7 BTS members. Instead, the drama tells the fictional story based on the plot of the BTS Universe told on their MVs, short films, and notes within BTS’ album in the HYYH era.
HYYH stands for Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa (화양연화), an era in BTS album that basically means “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life”. The HYYH era consisted of a trilogy that portrayed a coming-of-age story and all the issues that boys had to face during their transition from teenage to adulthood.
The storyline in the HYYH then transformed into a carefully crafted Korean drama, YOUTH. The whole Korean drama will take setting in BTS Universe story of school days: how the 7 characters first met and formed their beautiful friendship.
According to multiple sources, in YOUTH Korean drama story, BTS members came together due to shared detention in the school. After that, all 7 boys bonded and shared their daily life troubles.
Furthermore, the story will also focus on all the issues happening in HYYH era with its early childhood trauma, relationships with parents, and many other relatable issues. That is why casting the original BTS members were impossible since all the 7 boys have now grown into stunning adult men.

Despite being based on BTS HYYH era, YOUTH does not necessarily portray the original life story of BTS members. So to avoid confusion, the drama will not use the members’ real names. Instead, they will portray BTS characters in the HYYH era with brand new names to represent the BTS Universe story and its dark and challenging issues.
LARGEST Production Budget in Kdrama History
Finally, YOUTH Korean drama will reportedly become one of the top 3 Kdramas with the largest production budget in history
What’s truly shocking was the budget allocation for the drama’s Season 1 is approximately 35.4 million USD. And it was roughly the same amount used for 7 episodes in the 1st season of Game of Thrones.
Knowing that YOUTH takes place in modern settings with no fantasy or historical aspects, such budget is especially shocking. However, reports mentioned that this large budget was due to the license they had to cover for including a BTS OST song.
Still, unfortunately, as of today, there has been no release date or streaming platform announcement for YOUTH.But seeing how much collaboration happening between BTS content and Disney+ (j-hope in the Box & SUGA: Road to D-Day), it is highly likely that YOUTH will air on the same platform.
