CONFIDENTIAL ASSIGNMENT made a spectacular debut in 2017 by offering a fresh subject matter about a North Korean detective working with a South Korean detective on a case by pitting Hyun Bin against Yoo Hae-jin and earning more than 7.81 million admissions. This fall, the sequel is back with CONFIDENTIAL ASSIGNMENT 2: INTERNATIONAL offering a funnier and more thrilling story.
Confidential Assignment 2: International brings back the two familiar faces and task them with arresting an international crime organization. Adding to the mix is FBI agent Jack, who joins the two detectives with his own motive and mission. After successfully completing an unofficial joint detail between the two countries, Cheol-ryung returns to South Korea and reunites with Jin-tae, who is reassigned to a relatively safe Cyber Crimes unit.
Even though they have not seen each other in 5 years, they quickly get into high gear with their energy propelling the entire film. Confidential Assignment 2: International adds a surprise new element in the form of FBI agent Jack and turns this investigation into an international one, thereby breathing fresh new ideas into the film. It’s fascinating to see all three characters having their own ulterior motives while helping each other solve this case together. The bromance chemistry between all three male leads is something to look for.
In addition, the first film’s heroine, Min-young, adds plenty of laughs and spices to this film by intimately getting involved in the investigation to capture Jang Myun-jun, who proves to be a formidable villain.
This was only possible by allowing Lee Seok Hoon of The Pirates and The Himalayas to take the helm of Confidential Assignment 2: International. From the film’s opening moment, he stuffed the film with a thrilling skirmish in the middle of New York as well as car chase sequences, wire action, and hand-to-hand combat.
