We heard there’s an extraordinary story behind the making of your new single. Mind sharing it with us?

I started producing this song with Frad and Hayne long ago in Korea when we met up in a cafe. We played a ‘game’ where we took turns creating a few layers at a time. Afterwards, I recorded some demo vocals on top – but the project ended up getting lost in our emails. We revisited the song recently to revamp the production and re-record the vocals, and that’s how it came together.

That’s quite unique. What’s it like teaming up with Frad and Hayne?

It’s always great working with Frad and Hayne. I connected with them a long time ago, as we share a similar background. We were all Korean, living in New Zealand, and exploring the lo-fi genre. It’s really easy to work with them, as they have a great sense of musicality, and we are on the same page about what we think sounds good.

What’s kept you coming back to collaborate with Thomas Ng on your tracks?

I collaborated with Thomas once before on our track ‘One Last Dance,’ which has over 13 million streams on Spotify. I’ve always wanted to work with him again since then. And I thought that this song’s chill, mellow vibes would be a great fit for our voices. Thomas sent me his vocal melody idea, and I immediately loved it!

Can you share the inspiration behind this song and how it came to be?

I based this song on an experience I had a few years ago during COVID-19 when I started catching feelings for someone I was friends with. Although it was reciprocated, part of me was pretty apprehensive about it, as I thought that it might ruin the friendship we had going on – and I think we were both wary about that.

So, the theme of the song is about the uncertainty one may feel in the early stages of a relationship – when you meet someone and unexpectedly start to grow feelings for them. Sometimes, this kind of love comes suddenly, causing mixed feelings or confusion.
