EXO KAI Finally Released Solo Debut Album with "Mmmh" MV

On November 30, EXO Kai’s mini-album entitled KAI (开) is finally released after several teasers. His solo debut is marked with the release of EXO Kai, “MMMH” MV that was dropped at 12 PM KST, while the official album was released at 6 PM KST.

EXO Kai Solo Debut – Mini Album “KAI (开)” & Lead Track “Mmmh” MV

There are six tracks in the EXO Kai mini-album. Including the lead track “Mmmh,” “Hello Stranger,” “Reason,” “Amnesia,” “Nothing on Me,” and “Ride or Die.”

The lead track “Mmmh” is an R&B pop song with an addictive tune, and it’s a minimalist track. The lyrics tell about someone who is direct and confident in sharing his feelings for someone he just met. Ahead of the music video release, he held an online press conference for his first solo mini-album ‘KAI’ on the morning of November 30. Surprisingly, EXO Baekhyun came up as the MC of the event.

Releasing his first solo album eight years after his debut with EXO, Kai shared, “As this is my first time greeting fans with a solo album, I feel awkward, a little bit nervous, yet excited. I wasn’t nervous until a moment ago. I didn’t have any ideas, but I feel excited and nervous after arriving here.”

He added, “I have performed solo performances at EXO concerts and shows; however, I feel nervous yet excited because it’s my first official solo album release.” This year, Baekhyun achieved the ‘million-seller’ title. I feel proud, so from that energy, I have gained strength.”

Before the release of the music video, Kai explained, “My superpower in EXO is teleportation. In my solo album, we tried to include teleportation as well.” Moreover, he explained that they also put a lot of effort into the style and appearance of various music video backgrounds.

After watching the music video, Kai commented, “My heart hurts. Watching my first music video made my heart hurt, and it’s throbbing. Now I really can feel it.” Then he asked Baekhyun, “Did you feel this same way too?” Baekhyun replied, “When I first saw it, I wondered, ‘Why was it poured like this?’ and I only saw these things”. Then he praised Kai, “Kai’s music video definitely gives the feeling of artist Kai.”

Kai explained that the title of the album KAI (开) means “to open,” which reflects his intention to open the hearts of people. For his goal, Kai stated that he wanted to show the public his charisma, voice, dance, and various features as an artist and a person. He revealed that he personally selected all the songs on the album while wondering about what best suited his vocal tone and what performance he could bring on stage.

Moreover, Kai shared, “I love EXO albums more than anyone else, but I tried hard to show off the songs, dances, and clothing styles that I like a little more with my solo debut. The people around me are different. When I’m promoting with EXO, I’m with the good-looking members, but now I have dancers, so I wonder if people can focus a little more on me.”

Furthermore, Kai talked about getting support from his EXO fellows. Kai revealed, “Taemin was the first one who got promoted as a soloist. So, he gave me a lot of advice about how I should do things. Also, what I should pay more attention to as a soloist.”

He explained, “While recording, I kept asking questions to Baekhyun. The members helped me a lot. Rather than saying a simple, ‘Do well, hwaiting,’ they offered many ideas. Like how I could create a better quality album and what EXO-L would like.” He added, “Since each of the members promotes solo, they learn a lot and think a lot. I’m excited to see what synergy will be created when we reunite as EXO again after we level up.”

Finally, Kai expressed his appreciation to his fans. He said, “I have prepared the album well with a sincere heart for my fans. It was a hard and busy time. However, I prepared it while thinking about the fans, and I could resolve everything.

When I first debuted, self-satisfaction and the dreams I wanted to pursue as an artist came first. But then I’ve become sincere because I’ve got so much love from EXO-L, and they’ve been treated me with sincerity. I hope the fans will take this as a sincere expression of my feelings. Kai, a rookie artist, from now on, please look upon me well.”
