1. First Korean Project Directed by Famous and Talented Director Hirokazu Koreeda
Director Hirokazu Koreeda is a Japanese director, screenwriter, producer, and editor. He has been working on box office films and won numerous awards for his works. Koreeda’s works are primarily family-themed films such as “Nobody Knows,” “Still Walking,” “Like Father, Like Son,” “Shoplifters,” and “Little Sister.”
2. 5 years to Plan and Write “Broker”
Koreeda took about five years to plan “Broker” including its screenplay. However, with the lengthy process, Koreeda feels more confident about making a comeback after being absent since “Shoplifters” in 2018.
“Shoplifters” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018 and won the Palme d’Or award. He became the first Japanese filmmaker to win the prize in the last 21 years with his winning.

5. Korean Film “Broker” to Premiere at the 75th Cannes Film Festival
“Broker” is Hirokazu Koreeda’s Korean film debut throughout his career. The story tells about Sang Hyun and Dong Soo, who work together to find new parents for a baby left in a small box and make a special deal with them. However, So Young, the mother who placed her baby in the baby box, has come back for her baby. Meanwhile, detective Soo Jin and detective Lee are chasing Sang Hyun and Dong Soo.
Korean film “Broker” was selected for the Official Selection (in competition) of the Cannes Film Festival this year along with another movie under the same belt CJ ENM, “Decision to Leave.”
Moreover, film will be screened for the first time at the 75th Cannes Film Festival and released in theaters at the beginning of June. Additionally, aside from “Broker” and “Decision to Leave,” “Squid Game” Lee Jung Jae’s directorial debut “Hunt” will also premiere in the non-competition section.
The 75th Cannes Film Festival in 2022 will take place from May 17 to May 28, 2022.
