You may have heard that the new upcoming Kdrama starring Go Hyun Jung, “Namib,” has been rumored to be an adaptation of the professional story of NewJeans producer Min Heejin. However, that is just a false whisper circulating in social media. In fact, “Namib” director Kang Min Goo decided to personally address the rumors and denied the false assumption. But what is it about, really? How was it possible that “Namib” new Kdrama became involved in the messy dispute of Min Heejin? If you’re curious, we can tell you exactly what happened through the following report.
New Kdrama “Namib” Rumored to be Adapted from the Story of NewJeans Producer Min Heejin
The dispute between NewJeans producer Min Heejin and the giant corporation HYBE has been taking the Kpop industry by storm. Not to mention, this dispute has gone so massive that it creates a new controversial contract termination debate between NewJeans and ADOR of HYBE.
Some fans defended NewJeans producer Min Heejin for the unfair treatment HYBE reportedly aimed against her despite all the creative masterpieces and massive profits she had brought to the company. However, some also condemned that no matter what happened, what NewJeans producer Min Heejin did was considered an act of betrayal against the company that had employed her.
This controversial issue made such a massive impression that when a new Kdrama, “Namib,” emerged with the storyline of a music producer, everyone thought it was adapted from the story of NewJeans producer Min Heejin.
The new Kdrama, starring Go Hyun Jung, depicts the story of a talented female producer. It centers around everything that’s happened during the ups and downs of the producer’s life—both personal and professional.
Female Producer Story in New Kdrama “Namib”: Is She Min Heejin?
In the new Kdrama, “Namib” follows the life of Kang Soo Hyun (played by Go Hyun Jung.) She is a prominent female music producer who has been renowned for her creative mind and approach to producing new idols.
And yet, despite all her success and outstanding achievements, Kang Soo Hyun was cast away by her company, Pandora Entertainment. She was forced to leave the company and—amid all the desperation—pick up all her pieces on her own and start all over again.
From this perspective of Kang Soo Hyun’s professional career journey, the audience assumed that the new Kdrama, “Namib,” was adapted from the professional tale of NewJeans producer and former ADOR CEO Min Heejin.
Just like Kang Soo Hyun, Min Heejin was once a powerhouse at HYBE with a renowned reputation in the whole Kpop industry. She played a crucial role in rebranding the company, designing the company’s slogan, “We Believe in Music,”and launching the phenomenal rookie, NewJeans.
While “Namib” new Kdrama throws in fictional elements—like family drama and mentor-protégé relationships—the audience can’t help but notice the striking similarities between Kang Soo Hyun and Min Heejin.
FACTS: Director Kang Min Goo Completely Denies Similarities
With rumors of similarities and adaptation circulating on the internet and social media, “Namib” new Kdrama director Kang Min Goo finally addressed the issue.
On December 16, the new Kdrama “Namib” held a press conference at D-Cube City in Sindorim, Guro-gu, Seoul. Director Kang Min Goo, along with actors Ryeo Woon, Yoon Sang Hyun, and Lee Jin Woo, attended the event. Meanwhile, the lead actress Go Hyun Jung, who was originally scheduled to attend, announced her absence due to a sudden health issue.
At this press conference, director Kang Min Goo clarified that “Namib” was definitely not about Min Heejin. In fact, this project had been in development long before the dispute started between Min Heejin and HYBE. Therefore, the director emphasized that his project had nothing to do with the incident.
“I’ve seen those reactions, but this project was planned and produced well before that incident. Honestly, I don’t pay much attention to it.
Our work stands on its own, and that’s a completely separate issue. We’re just focused on creating our project without getting caught up in anything else.”

With this clarification, we can now safely confirm that “Namib” has nothing to do with Min Heejin entirely. No matter how similar you think Kang Soo Hyun’s story to Min Heejin, her story had nothing to do with the NewJeans producer.
Finally, the release date of “Namib” will be coming soon on December 23 at 10 PM KST. You can also watch this fantastic Kdrama on Viki or Genie TV.
