Rising Kpop girl group, FIFTY FIFTY, experiences setbacks despite their soaring popularity with Cupid. The unfortunate events faced by FIFTY FIFTY led to the cancellation of their highly-anticipated music video for the music video of Barbie movie soundtrack, Barbie Dreams, which was set to release on July 7. The group is sure to miss the good opportunity to get international recognition.
Barbie Dreams Cancellation: FIFTY FIFTY Missed Opportunity for International Recognition
FIFTY FIFTY was set to shoot a music video for Barbie Dreams, one of the OSTs for the upcoming Hollywood movie Barbie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. This is an excellent opportunity for the group to boost global recognition, especially after their successful chart-topping track Cupid on the US Billboard’s Hot 100.
However, the music video shoot of Barbie Dreams was ultimately canceled due to a disagreement between FIFTY FIFTY and their agency, ATTRAKT. Following their injunction against ATTRAKT and the subsequent disclosure of conflicts with the CEO, FIFTY FIFTY’s activities have been suspended.
ATTRAKT founder, Jeon Hong-joon, proposed postponing the shoot until issues between the members and the company were resolved. In response, CEO Ahn Seong-il threatened to quit if the music video shoot did not proceed. Consequently, the music video for Barbie Dreams was canceled, and FIFTY FIFTY missed out on opportunities to interact with Barbie cast members such as Margot Robbie during their events in Korea.
The Reason to Take Part in Barbie Movie
In May, the Barbie movie production team announced the list of singers participating in the soundtrack, which included FIFTY FIFTY alongside renowned pop artists like Dua Lipa, Nicki Minaj, and Lizzo. This remarkable opportunity arose because ATTRAKT, the group’s agency, had established a partnership with Warner Records.
Despite FIFTY FIFTY ‘s rising stock in North America with their hit Cupid, Warner Records had limited involvement with Kpop. Warner Records aimed to elevate the group’s popularity through this partnership. It was a pity that FIFTY FIFTY should face cancellation of their involvement in Barbie movie.
Dispatch Breaks Down FIFTY FIFTY and ATTRAKT Relationship
Dispatch reports that three key figures were involved in forming ATTRAKT: Jeon Hong Joon, Ahn Seong Il, and KAMP. They came together in 2019 at KAMP Singapore 2019 and decided to create a global Kpop group.’
Jeong Hong Joon is the initial founder of ATTRAKT and has management experience working with prominent musicians such as Jo Kwan Woo, Yang Soo Kyung, Yoon Mi Rae, Bobby Kim, and Ha Sung Woon.
Meanwhile, Ahn Seong Il is the CEO and chief producer of The Givers, who is also experienced in producing music with artists like J-Walk, Eun Ji Won, Rumble Fish, etc.
And KAMP is a concert management agency based in the United States. In fact, Ahn Seong Il was an employee at KAMP in 2019.
However, KAMP withdrew from the FIFTY project due to disagreements with Jeon Hong Joon. Therefore, he searched for another agency to help the group promote overseas.
“I was looking for a team that would take over the role KAMP had played in the project. Ahn Sung Il said that he was my man. When I considered the tie-in from KAMP, I had no reason to reject his offer.” Jeon Hong Joon revealed to Dispatch.
In May of 2021, Ahn Sung Il and two employees working with ATTRAKT resigned from KAMP. Shortly afterward, they founded The Givers. It was also reported that Jeon Hong Joon has invested so much money on FIFTY FIFTY.
Since then, issues have continued to arise among FIFTY FIFTY, Jeon Hong Joon, and Ahn Sung Il.
