Kpop fans might be familiar with the School of Performance Art (SOPA). After all, it’s the alma mater of BTS Jungkook, BLACKPINK Jisoo, IVE Wonyoung, EXO Kai, and many more popular Kpop idols. Great news comes for international fans who want to learn about Kpop and follow in their idols’ footsteps. In collaboration with SOPA, Singapore Raffles Music College (SRMC) is set to establish the first Kpop international high school for aspiring entertainers. So, are you ready to enroll?
SRMC and SOPA to Establish Kpop International High School
SRMC and SOPA, two prominent liberal and performing arts institutes, have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish Singapore’s first-of-its-kind Kpop high school. This pioneering institution will offer specialized programs, meeting the demands of the highly popular Kpop industry.
Notably, SOPA has nurtured talented individuals such as Bae Suzy, BTS Jungkook, BLACKPINK Jisoo, EXO Kai, EXO Sehun, IVE Wonyoung, IVE Yujin, Red Velvet Seulgi, and many more. With the introduction of this innovative curriculum, aspiring students will have the opportunity to pursue their dreams and emulate their beloved Kpop idols.
“We see this as a unique opportunity to bring the essence of specialized performing arts education from South Korea into Singapore and South-east Asia. This will showcase the exceptional value of industry-focused education and provide the impetus to spur the industry forward regionally.”
SRMC executive director Ryan Goh to The Strait Times.
Classes Will be Conducted in English
SRMC and SOPA have created a special curriculum, integrating Korean and Singaporean educational systems. Moreover, to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for international students, all classes will be in English.
Students who successfully enroll will be taught and mentored by SOPA’s faculty, which consists of prominent figures in the Kpop industry. Additionally, scholarship opportunities are available, and SRMC will also assist Korean students who wish to study abroad.
“As an educator, I am honored that our educational accomplishments are being recognized globally through this MOU with Singapore Raffles Music College. We are determined to further elevate the School of Performing Arts Seoul’s reputation as an exemplary educational institution not only in Korea but also overseas as an educational institution specializing in Kpop,”
SOPA principal Honsung Lim to The Straits Times.
Further details on the new school and enrolment have yet to be revealed. Make sure to check Singapore Raffles Music College’s official website for updates. Also, stay with Kpoppost and follow our Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Telegram channel for more K-entertainment news and stories.
