The Significance of K-Culture in Indonesia

Korean culture — known as Hallyu or the Korean Wave — has become a powerful force in Indonesia. From K-pop concerts that sell out in minutes to the massive popularity of K-dramas, K-beauty, and Korean cuisine, K-culture has left a profound impact on Indonesian society.

Indonesia is now considered one of the largest Hallyu markets in Southeast Asia, with millions of passionate fans driving growth in entertainment, fashion, tourism, and digital content.

By presenting “FLYING,” Korea introduces a different facet of its culture beyond mainstream pop: traditional stories retold through modern performing arts. The cultural performance strengthens cultural diversity while deepening Indonesians’ appreciation of Korea’s creative industries.

Cultural Diplomacy and APEC 2025

“FLYING” is not a mere performance. It is a form of cultural diplomacy. Korea strategically uses art and culture to build stronger people-to-people connections, reinforcing goodwill ahead of APEC 2025.

Nonverbal theater, with its universal humor and action, creates a shared cultural space where audiences from different backgrounds can connect without language barriers.

Korea–Indonesia Business and Cultural Synergy

The Korea–Indonesia partnership is multifaceted, covering business, investment, and cultural collaboration:

  • Creative Industries: The popularity of K-pop and K-dramas in Indonesia creates opportunities in event management, media, and tourism.
  • Investment: Korea is a major investor in Indonesia, with significant projects in EV batteries, automotive, infrastructure, and technology.
  • Cultural Exchange: Events like FLYING strengthen bilateral trust, which in turn supports smoother collaboration in trade and business.

As Korea hosts APEC 2025, this integration shows how culture and economics are interconnected. It is a combination of soft power and strategic partnerships.

Conclusion: More Than a Show — A Symbol of Friendship

The upcoming “FLYING” performance in Jakarta, Indonesia is more than a world-class cultural spectacle. It symbolizes the growing friendship between Korea and Indonesia, reinforcing ties not only in arts and culture but also in business and diplomacy.

For art enthusiasts, students, and business professionals, this event offers a unique opportunity to witness how Korean creativity and Indonesian enthusiasm meet on one stage.
