Former LOONA Chuu Has Won the Lawsuit Against Blockberry Creative
South Korean idol and former member of the K-pop girl group LOONA, Chuu (birth name Kim Ji Woo), has finally freed herself from the controversies that had tied her to her former agency, Blockberry Creative.
Korean media outlet E-Daily reported that former LOONA member Chuu had finally won the lawsuit against Blockberry Creative. On August 17, Chief Judge Jeong Woo Jung of the Seoul Northern District Court Civil Settlement’s 12th Division decided to rule in favor of the plaintiff in the ongoing lawsuit between former LOONA member Chuu and Blockberry Creative.
This decision also means that the court has confirmed the nonexistence and invalidity of Chuu’s exclusive contract. The court also upheld Chuu’s claims that her agreement was invalid due to unfair profit settlement and a collapse of trust.
Former LOONA member Chuu filed a lawsuit against her former agency, Blockberry Creative, in December 2021, four years after her 2017 debut. The lawsuit demanded a settlement for her profits and the collapse of trust between the two parties.
Initially, the court advised Chuu and Blockberry Creative to settle the case through mediation in March 2023. However, the two parties were unable to reach an agreement.
Fighting Against All Odds
By winning the lawsuit against Blockberry Creative, former LOONA member Chuu has successfully proved her innocence. With a strong determination, Chuu has fought against all odds and built a stronger foundation for her future as a solo artist.
After being kicked out of the LOONA group due to malicious accusations, Blockberry Creative had done its best to prevent Chuu from embarking on a new journey. The agency’s efforts included submitting a petition to the Korea Entertainment Management Association in February.
This petition was to request the suspension of Chuu’s entertainment activities. The company took this action based on accusations that Chuu had tampered with her previous exclusive contract with Blockberry Creative by signing with BY4M STUDIO in 2021.
During the ongoing lawsuit and amid the unfair request, the former LOONA member Chuu addressed the issue via her Instagram story. At the time, she immediately denied the accusation and declared her unawareness of the company called BY4M STUDIO.
Today, Chuu has successfully overcome all odds.
After signing an exclusive contract with a new agency ATRP in April, the court has also ruled in her favor, proving her credibility.
