The plagiarism controversy of (G)I-DLE Soyeon “SUN” song for “My Teenage Girl” is NOT over yet! (G)I-DLE Soyeon Under Fire Once Again for “SUN” Song Controversy VS ATEEZ “WAVE”
The all-rounder leader of (G)I-DLE, Jeon Soyeon, has been under fire once again for “My Teenage Girl” song, “SUN”, which previously got entangled in a plagiarism controversy with ATEEZ. Today, the “SUN” song controversy begins a new chapter, and the odds are NOT completely against Soyeon this time.
(G)I-DLE Soyeon VS ATEEZ Controversy: What REALLY Happened?
Previously in February, (G)I-DLE Soyeon produced a new song for a group she mentored in “My Teenage Girl” reality show. However, after the group in “My Teenage Girl” show performed “SUN” song, it went viral on social media because of the controversy that (G)I-DLE Soyeon had plagiarized ATEEZ 2019 iconic song, “WAVE”.
As a comparison, some fans put the two songs together in one clip. But then, the public couldn’t help but notice the similar melody, rhythm, and features between (G)I-DLE Soyeon “SUN” song for “My Teenage Girl” and ATEEZ “WAVE”, and it led to a huge controversy between the two fandoms.

After that, on February 28, some fans noticed that the credits for “My Teenage Girl” “SUN” song changed on Bugs streaming platform. In particular, the name EDENARY appeared on the list of credits for “SUN”.
However, ATEEZ label KQ Entertainment claimed that there had been no discussion about adding EDENARY’s name on the “SUN” song credits at all.
“As the company was monitoring the related issue, they discovered that the company’s producing team, EDENARY, appeared on the list of credits for ‘SUN.’
We want to clarify that we did not have any discussions before with the company or EDENARY.
In hopes of respecting creators and their unique works and in hopes that to correct any misinformation, we ask everyone to refrain from making unreasonable assumptions regarding the issue.”
KQ Entertainment.
For your information, EDENARY is a production team under KQ Entertainment. They are the people who work behind the wonderful song of ATEEZ, consisting of EDEN, Buddy, LEEZ, and Ollounder.
Apology Statement from (G)I-DLE Soyeon and CUBE Entertainment for “My Teenage Girl” “SUN” Song Controversy
Following the controversy revolving around her “SUN” song for “My Teenage Girl” vs ATEEZ “WAVE”, (G)I-DLE Soyeon and her CUBE Entertainment agency posted an official apology.
In the apology statement, CUBE Entertainment mentioned that the company only realized the similarities between “SUN” and “WAVE” after the broadcast.
Due to this realization of the controversy, (G)I-DLE Soyeon took the initiative to credit the original composer of ATEEZ “WAVE”, EDENARY. Furthermore, she claimed to have discussed with EDENARY and asked “My Teenage Girl” producer to make changes in the “SUN” song credits.
On the other hand, KQ Entertainment ultimately refused to list EDENARY’s name on the credits. However, it was already impossible for “My Teenage Girl” producer to retract the credit change. As a result, EDENARY’s name only appears on the “SUN” song credits on Bugs music platform.
At the same time, (G)I-DLE Soyeon also posted her official apology to the public and EDENARY. She apologized for causing the controversy between her “My Teenage Girl” “SUN” song and ATEEZ “WAVE”.
KOMCA Copyright Credit for “My Teenage Girl” “SUN” Song Triggers New Chapter for the Controversy
Just when we thought the plagiarism issue ended with the apology statement, the (G)I-DLE Soyeon “SUN” vs ATEEZ “WAVE” song controversy reveals a brand-new chapter.
On June 18, a Twitter user @atzyh_hwasu posted that “My Teenage Girl” “SUN” song was listed under Soyeon’s name. It brings a whole new chapter of the plagiarism controversy between (G)I-DLE Soyeon and ATEEZ for “My Teenage Girl” “SUN” vs ATEEZ “WAVE”.
“I understand the song being made available for streaming. After all, I know that there are fans of the contestants who recorded the song.
However, copyrighting a plagiarized song and receiving profits from it is just not right.
The song had not been on KOMCA’s list until now. But I notice it they have registered for copyright.”

Soyeon is Allegedly Claiming the Full Rights for “My Teenage Girl” “SUN” Song
In addition to the capture of “My Teenage Girl” “SUN” copyright register in the KOMCA (Korea Music Copyright Association), the user also stated that the name of (G)I-DLE Soyeon also appeared as one of the backup singers.
According to the user, it means that (G)I-DLE Soyeon is claiming to own the full rights “My Teenage Girl” “SUN” song, despite its plagiarism controversy against ATEEZ “WAVE”. Therefore, (G)I-DLE Soyeon will be able to make license profits from anyone who wants to use “My Teenage Girl” “SUN” song in any form.
“Soyeon’ name also appears as one of the song’s performers as a backup vocal. I wonder if she thinks everyone forgot this is a plagiarized song…
I looked it up right around ‘TOMBOY’ release time. Back then, [SUN] was not listed with KOMCA or the Federation of Korean Music Performers (FKMP).
‘TOMBOY’ came out after ‘SUN,’ was listed. So I assumed she wouldn’t be copyrighting the plagiarized song at all. But here we are…”

Soyeon Under Fire for The KOMCA Copyright
The revelation of KOMCA copyright registration triggered mixed reactions from fans about the plagiarism controversy revolving ATEEZ “WAVE” and (G)I-DLE Soyeon “SUN” song for “My Teenage Girl” reality show.
After all, “WAVE” was the most special song for ATEEZ and their ATINY fans. That is because “WAVE” was the very first song that gave ATEEZ their very first win on music shows in 2019.
Therefore, the KOMCA copyright revelation triggers a new chapter of criticism towards (G)I-DLE Soyeon and her controversy against ATEEZ “WAVE”.
Yes but it still shouldn’t be copyrighted because of its copyrighted that means she’s getting the money from a song that she plagiarize which means the original songwriters are not getting money from the song and said she’s getting all the money

The Most Possible Reason Behind the KOMCA Copyright Appearance
Still, the public also believed that Soyeon name appearing on “My Teenage Girl” “SUN” copyright registration is not without reason.
Some fans stated that it most likely means that both CUBE and KQ Entertainment have reached an agreed settlement.
After all, (G)I-DLE Soyeon had already apologized for the similarities between the two songs. She showed her good intention of crediting EDENARY for the song despite them having no involvement in the creation process.
Furthermore, fans also suspect that the case was not pure plagiarism. Instead, the similarities most likely happened during the sampling process of “My Teenage Girl” “SUN” song production. The sampling process is where a producer takes a section of existing audio and reuses it for their own creation.
Therefore, if the similarity had indeed happened during the sampling process, it explained the reason why both companies were able to solve the controversy between (G)I-DLE Soyeon “SUN” and ATEEZ “WAVE” amicably. It also explains why KQ Entertainment does not sue Soyeon, and instead, her name appears as the full owner of “My Teenage Girl” “SUN” song.
Another fan even pointed out that the reason (G)I-DLE Soyeon “SUN” vs ATEEZ “WAVE” song controversy was due to a mistake in handling the problem. (G)I-DLE Soyeon’s mistake was only the fact that she dealt with the problem poorly by changing the credits without consulting the agency.
i guess soyeon credited the producer (crediting and getting clearance aren’t the same thing) but her copyright seems to be authenticated by being on that site so i think KQ sent a copyright notice (like a warning) once this all started and cube and KQ may have settled
— psst aespa’s back #GIRLS (@bunnytsuki_chu) June 19, 2022
My guess is they’ve already settled it privately since it took 4 months to register the credits. Soyeon already apologized for the similar melodies, I don’t know what else they want from her other than admit something she didn’t do.

if you realise your work is accidentally similar to another one 1) it happens all the time 2) you dont fix it by crediting them if you really werent influenced by them. i believe her if she says she wasnt but then why add edenary, why afterwards, and why without consulting them
