tvN’s Drama ‘Hometown Cha Cha Cha’ and ‘Vincenzo’ In Talks for an International Series Remake
This year, South Korea has produced many new Korean dramas that have captivated and entertained viewers worldwide. As a result, the popularity of Korean dramas in 2021 skyrocketed.
Previously in November, two Korean dramas,’ W: Two Worlds’ and ‘Crash Landing on You,’ were reportedly in the discussion for a remake. Now, other Korean dramas are also reportedly in talks for a remake.
The other two dramas are tvN’s hit dramas, ‘Vincenzo’ and ‘Hometown Cha Cha Cha.’ These hit dramas have successfully captured viewers’ attention globally and are available to watch on Netflix.
As reported by the Korean newspaper, Sports Chosun, the Korean dramas ‘Vincenzo’ and ‘Hometown Cha Cha Cha,’ which produced by production company Studio Dragon, are reportedly in talks for an international drama series remake.
Based on OTT data provided by Nielsen Korea, ‘Vincenzo,’ which first aired in February – May 2021, earned the highest rating of 18.4%.
Meanwhile, ‘Hometown Cha Cha Cha,’ which first aired in August – October 2021, gained the highest rating of 14.5%.
The production team of Studio Dragon stated, “The popularity of ‘Vincenzo’ and the healing romance of ‘Hometown Cha Cha Cha,’ which has a complex genre character, proves that global audiences have fallen in love with Korean drama regardless of the genre.”
Vincenzo
‘Vincenzo’ follows an Italian mafia consigliere of Korean descent. He returns to South Korea after an internal conflict in his organization. He also has a mission to claim hidden gold under an old building.
The hit drama with 20 episodes has successfully combined action, crime, and comedy into one. As a result, it became a refreshing drama at the beginning of this year and captured the viewers’ hearts.
Moreover, ‘Vincenzo’ became the comeback project of actor Song Joong-ki after his last drama in 2019 with ‘Arthdal Chronicles Part 3: The Prelude To All Legends.’
In ‘Vincenzo,’ Song Joong Ki worked with Jeon Yeo Bin, 2PM’s Ok Taecyeon, Kwak Dong Yeon, and more. In addition, the chemistry of all actors and actresses has also made the viewers filled with awe.
Hometown Cha Cha Cha
‘Hometown Cha Cha Cha’ is a healing romance drama starring Kim Seon Ho, Shin Min Ah, and Lee Sang Yi. The story follows a dentist, Yoon Hye-jin (Shin Min Ah), who moved from a big city to the sea village called ‘Gongjin.’ She then meets a handyman named Hong Banjang (Kim Seon Ho).
The slice of life drama is a healing drama that received excellent reviews from global viewers. In addition, just like ‘Vincenzo,’ the cast members’ chemistry has also delighted the viewers.
Writer Shin Ha Eun, who wrote ‘Hometown Cha Cha Cha,’ said, “I wanted to say that love still exists among people in these days when emotional distance is hard to get closer.”
She added, “Hometown Cha Cha Cha is a drama with Korean emotions, and the reason this story could become popular worldwide, it was because based on the “people’s hearts,” she said about the popularity factor.
