BTS has become the official ambassador for the bidding process of bringing World Expo 2030 to Busan. But did you know that the government must go through a lengthy and challenging approach to convince these Kings? Check out the following complete reports about how Busan officials convinced BTS to become their bidding ambassador for World Expo 2030. It was NOT easy!
Busan Went on a Lengthy Process to Bring BTS as The World Expo 2030 Bidding Ambassador
With great power comes great responsibility. BTS has become a global phenomenon, claiming their reign as the millennial King of Pop today. In the eyes of global communities, especially the ones involving the entertainment industry, BTS hold such a great power that they can move mountains and rivers.
That is why Busan was in desperate need of BTS power to assist them during the bidding process for World Expo 2030. However, they had to go through a lengthy process to bring BTS on board this ship.
On July 22, Korean media reported in an exclusive interview that Busan officials had to go through loops and challenging ways to convince BTS to become the ambassador for World Expo 2030 bidding process. The process involved various high officials, including Busan Mayor Park Heong Joon, Busan Vice Mayor for Economic Affairs Lee Seong Kwon, and Park Sung-hoon, a secretary to President Yoon Suk Yeol, who formerly served as Busan deputy mayor.
It All Started with The Parents of BTS Members Jimin and Jungkook – Who Played a HUGE Part
First and foremost, the lengthy and challenging process all started with the parents of BTS members Jimin and Jungkook.
We all know that Busan is the hometown of BTS members Jimin and Jungkook. That is why secretary Park Sung Hoon reportedly visited BTS Jimin’s father at his café last year. And they had a discussion over wine.
The secretary then requested Jimin’s father so he could convince his son to accept the ambassadorship for the Busan bidding process for World Expo 2030.
After the secretary completed the visit, BTS Jimin’s father relayed the message to Jungkook’s father. Fortunately, Jungkook’s father responded positively.
Busan Mayor Visited HYBE To Convince All Seven BTS Members
Along with the lobbying process done by secretary Park Sung Hoon, Busan Mayor Park Heong Joon decided to take on a more official pathway.
The recently-elected mayor reached out to the BTS agency, HYBE, to convince BTS to join as the promotional ambassador. Furthermore, he personally requested to all 7 members of BTS to support the plan to bring World Expo 2030 to Busan. After all, World Expo is the oldest and largest event in the global community, which will be going on for about half a year.
By stressing how important this event is that it becomes South Korea’s most significant ongoing project, he persuaded all BTS members to get on board.
It Takes ONE Year Until All BTS Members Agreed to Join Busan as Their World Expo 2030 Bidding Ambassador
After a long and challenging process, HYBE eventually contacted Busan. And they did it once all seven members of BTS agreed join Busan project for World Expo 2030.
A Busan official reported that HYBE asked each BTS member’s opinion on whether they were interested in joining the project. And once all BTS members were on board, only then HYBE gave the green light to the city of Busan.
“We have repeatedly emphasized that the Busan World Expo is the nation’s #1 top priority project.
Also, HYBE said they had asked each BTS member for their opinions, and they all agreed.”

Finally, after a yearlong process, Busan announced on June 12 that BTS had accepted the ambassadorship. Then, Busan and HYBE formally signed the MOU on June 24, and BTS officially took the ambassadorship in an official ceremony on July 19.

BTS as Busan World Expo 2030 Bidding Ambassador: “Gaining a Thousand of Troops and Horses”
Finally, having all BTS members on board on World Expo 2030 Busan project, Mayor Park admitted to be incredibly thrilled. He even expressed his joy using a famous Korean adage, like “gaining a thousand of troops and horses,” meaning that he felt fully supported.
Indeed, this huge national project started during the Moon Jae In government. However, it was only recently, after President Yoon Suk Yeol took office, that the project gained massive attention. That is why Mayor Park Heong Joong was overjoyed after BTS agreed to join Busan.
“The government has changed, and we have promoted the Busan Expo as a national priority.”

A “Disrespectful” Politician Behavior During World Expo 2030 Busan Appointment Ceremony Became a Controversy in South Korea
Still, deciding to involve the biggest Kpop phenomenon in the global community means several essential details to pay attention to.
Previously, the huge excitement of BTS becoming the Busan World Expo 2030 bidding ambassador was overshadowed by a hidden issue. Several officials abruptly lifted the hands of BTS members RM, Jin, Suga, and V, taking them to a huge surprise.
Moreover, fans particularly focused their attention on President Yoon’s secretary for policy coordination, Jang Sung Min. During the ceremony, he approached BTS V, whispered something, and abruptly lifted his hand in an uncomfortable gesture. While V was shocked and struggled to find a comfortable position, Jang Sung Min smiled at the camera with a seemingly oblivious expression.
According to the Korean media, this behavior from Jang Sung Min received online backlash in South Korea. BTS fans in South Korea deemed Jang Sung Min as “disrespectful”. That is because they believed Jang Sung Min took advantage of V. He treated him like a stage prop to gain attention and political points for optics.
