The second act of HYBE x ADOR dispute has just started, and the giant label is already riling up both Korean and global netizens. Apparently, fans believe that HYBE has been using NewJeans recent “Bubble Gum” plagiarism accusations to cover their own issue, adding fuel to the drama controversy. But what exactly happened? Is HYBE finally turning NewJeans into the black sheep using this plagiarism issue? Join us in a complete discussion below.
NewJeans “Bubble Gum” Plagiarism Emerged AGAIN – Was HYBE Behind Everything?
The massive dispute between HYBE and ADOR CEO Min Heejin has just recently entered the 2nd act. Yet, the company is already facing massive criticism.
On July 18, the plagiarism accusation against NewJeans “Bubble Gum” was suddenly raised to the surface again. Korean media outlet Munhwa Ilbo reported that British Band Shakatak had hired a Korean law firm to cease the circulation of NewJeans “Bubble Gum” and demand compensation for damages.
According to the report, Shakatak’s label WISE MUSIC GROUP filed an official Letter of Claim in mid-June to six recipients. They claimed that NewJeans “Bubble Gum” has indeed plagiarized Shakatak’s song “Easier Said than Done.”
WISE MUSIC GROUP also described the detailed reasons behind NewJeans “Bubble Gum” plagiarism in several points.
Therefore, WISE MUSIC GROUP demanded that NewJeans stop using the song, report any profits they’d made, change all the rights, provide written guarantees, and pay for damages. They were also given 7 days to meet these requirements and to notify WISE MUSIC GROUP directly.
ADOR then responded to these claims that they were the ones waiting for further responses from WISE MUSIC GROUP. They had previously denied the accusation and requested the accusers to back their claims with clear evidence.
“We replied to Shakatak’s claims on June 21, just a few days after they reached out on June 17.
We made it clear that we didn’t use their original composition without permission and asked them to provide a credible analysis comparing the two songs. Yet, we haven’t received that report today.
It’s up to Shakatak to prove their plagiarism claims, so we’re waiting for them to respond.”
ADOR.
MORE Drama Controversy: Using NewJeans’ Accusation to Cover Their Own?
Immediately after the news circulated, fans became angry at HYBE for attacking NewJeans with more drama controversy. That is especially concerning when the company itself is facing a severe plagiarism issue.
Previously, HYBE’s subsidiary Pledis Entertainment had faced plagiarism accusations for a latest song by the new group TWS. With the recent release of TWS’s new track “Double Take,” BIGBANG fans quickly spotted similarities between its melody and video and GD&TOP’s “Knock Out.” They even started comparing the two videos side by side.
Uhm?? this is GD&TOP's knock out? https://t.co/e05SfaVUlp pic.twitter.com/jQaePuZqad

However, after Korean media outlets reported on the issue, netizens noticed that articles were mysteriously deleted. Therefore, it then sparked rumors that HYBE quickly stepped in to manage the situation. This swift response only added more suspicion from fans, making them wonder what happened behind the scenes.
Now, the case that had started and died down around 2 months ago suddenly emerged again. And immediately, Korean news outlets are full of this topic.
Therefore, fans found it quite suspicious that these allegations surfaced just days after the TWS accusations. While it’s all still speculation, many believe that HYBE might be orchestrating this sudden scandal to divert attention from past controversies and shift the spotlight amid their feud with the other company.
surprise surprise… HYBE is using NewJeans as their shield to cover up their new boy group TWS’ plagiarism allegations that went viral yesterday. HYBE immediatly had articles taken down of their controversy and THE VERY NEXT DAY they released an exclusive press release and then… pic.twitter.com/Q0XGWeHNq2
