On August 21, tvN announced the premiere date of the highly anticipated Saturday-Sunday drama “Jeong Nyeon – The Star Is Born.” The highly anticipated historical drama will premiere exclusively on tvN on October 12, at 9:20 PM KST.

“Jeong Nyeon” follows the journey of a young girl named Jeong Nyeon from Mokpo. She has a melodious voice and strives to become a famous actress. The drama is set against the background of the 1950s; it depicts a time when poverty and romanticism emerged after the Korean War.
To escape from poverty, Jeong Nyeon strives to become the star of the national theater amidst fierce competition. This captivating drama also explores the rivalry between Jeong Nyeon and Heo Yeong Seo. Both of them have contrasting qualities and backgrounds that shape their journeys. While Jeong Nyeon struggles with self-doubt despite her extraordinary talent, Yeong Seo calmly seeks validation. These differences are reflected in their appearance and personalities, adding richness and appeal to the storyline.
This drama specifically highlights the unique theme of Yeoseong Gukgeuk, the national women’s theater. After the Korean War, traditional Korean musical theater was dominated by women, as women played all the roles. It gained immense popularity during that period.

The upcoming drama “Jeong Nyeon” is based on a popular webtoon with the same name. Writer Seo Ireh and illustrator Namon created the captivating series on webtoon from 2019 to 2022. Moreover, director Jung Ji In, known for his hit historical drama “The Red Sleeve,” is at the helm. In addition, writer Choi Hyo Bi, known for her hit work “A Time Called You,” is in charge as the screenwriter.
