After releasing false CCTV footage and information about the BTS Suga DUI scooter accident, JTBC News finally released an apology statement. Yet, was it truly enough to fix the irreversible mistake as one of the top major news companies in South Korea? The damage has been done, and BTS Suga is suffering from more public backlash, especially in his own country. Dive deeper into the story with us below.
JTBC News Officially Apologizes for False CCTV Footage on BTS Suga DUI Scooter Accident
One of the top major news companies in South Korea, JTBC News, has released an official apology for releasing the false CCTV footage on the BTS Suga DUI scooter accident.
On August 16, the South Korean giant news company JTBC apologized through a live broadcast via a Newsroom anchor.
“Our JTBC Newsroom released a report about BTS member Suga’s DUI scooter accident on August 7. In the initial part of our report, we broadcasted CCTV footage of an electric scooter passing by the main road.
A police investigation later confirmed that the male individual in the video was not BTS Suga.
We apologize for the confusion we have caused.”

This is the second confirmation from JTBC News in an attempt to clarify the false CCTV footage of the BTS Suga DUI scooter accident. Previously, the major news company also confirmed in an official release that the previous CCTV footage was false.
“The next day after BTS Suga DUI scooter accident occurred, JTBC reported a CCTV footage of a scooter cruising down the main road opposite Nine One Hannam, around the same time the police discovered Suga.
However, after investigating the routes and details, the police confirmed it wasn’t Suga riding the scooter in that video.”

Yonhap News Remains Silent for the False Info on BTS Suga DUI Scooter Accident
This is not the only false CCTV footage going public on the BTS Suga DUI scooter accident. According to Donga Ilbo, the only authentic CCTV footage about the incident is the one in their latest report. BTS’s company BIGHIT Music had also confirmed that the man in the CCTV footage released by Donga was indeed BTS Suga.
Therefore, the two CCTV footage that had gone public earlier were both false footage. While JTBC has issued an official apology, Yonhap News remains silent.
Was it REALLY Enough to Fix Irreversible Mistakes?
As one of the top major companies in South Korea, JTBC has long become one of the primary sources of news reports. It is part of JoongAng Holdings, the media conglomerate that owns the prominent newspaper JoongAng Ilbo.
With direct access to reliable sources and its extensive network, it is from JTBC and various other prominent media companies that major news from South Korea can finally reach the local and international public. Therefore, releasing an exclusive report on the BTS Suga DUI incident without first confirming its authenticity was certainly an irreversible mistake.
As of today, even when BTS Suga has proved to have told the truth in his DUI apology statement, the public’s sentiment has not changed. In South Korea, the situation worsened with funeral wreaths and protest trucks parading near HYBE’s company building.
“Told His Fans To Be Confident, Came Back To Them With A DUI.
Drunk Driver Suga, D-Day To Leave The Group Is Today.
7-1=6. ARMYs Will Complete The Group. Drunk Driver Suga OUT.
Kick Suga Out of BTS. We Do Not Need A Criminal Who Deceives Fans. #RootForBTSSugaWithdrawing.
Suga, Leave the Group On Your Own Will Before Things Get Uglier. #DrunkDrivingCriminal_SugaWithdrawal”
Protest Trucks.
Therefore, was it really enough for JTBC to merely release such a simple apology statement after making such an irreversible mistake?
The Case is Under Investigation: The Police is Scheduling an Official Summon
Indeed, the current report states that BTS Suga was driving an electric kickboard with a saddle under an alarming 0.227% BAC level. Not only that, but police have also confirmed that Suga’s vehicle fell under a “motorized bicycle,” resulting in him facing criminal charges for his action.
However, the case is still under investigation. The police are scheduling an official summons for BTS Suga.
“The electric scooter that Sugar was riding had a top speed of 30 km/h, and it is classified as a motorized bicycle, not a personal mobility device, so it is subject to criminal prosecution.
Now, all that’s left is the summons investigation, and we are coordinating the schedule.”
