JTBC exclusively reported that actor Kim Hee-won to make his directorial debut with Shop of the Lamp. The story is an adaptation of a webtoon series of the same name by the famous cartoonist Kang Full.
The webtoon series is another masterpiece of Kang Full that was first serialized in 2011. Moreover, the upcoming new drama will be the ninth screen adaptation of Kim Full’s works after Moving.
Kim Hee-won’s Directorial Debut
Kim Hee-won is one of the famous veteran actors in South Korea with a long list of dramas and movies. Besides acting, he is popular as the host of House on Wheels alongside actor Sung Dong-il.
In 2023, he made a comeback on the small screen with two Korean dramas, Han River and Moving. The actor also returned to the silver screen with two captivating Korean movies, Unlocked and Silence.
Moreover, the actor, who debuted as an actor in 2007, is ready to make a directorial debut this year. So, it will be exciting to see if the actor can create a webtoon based on drama without losing its original strength.

According to JTBC exclusive report, actor Ju Ji-hoon has been cast to play the lamp shop owner in the upcoming drama.
In response to the report, the actor’s agency, H& Entertainment, stated that the drama is one of the projects the actor received and is currently under review.
If Ju Ji hoon accepts the offer, the project will be his second collab with actor Kim Hee-won after a Korean movie, Silence. However, unlike their previous collaboration, they will be teaming up as an actor and a director in the upcoming thriller drama.
Synopsis and Release Date
The webtoon is about a unique lamp shop that connects our world to the next. A girl named HyeonJu often visits because her house’s lights keep breaking. She feels something strange and learns she survived a car crash that took her mother’s life. Her mother sent her to the lamp shop to return to the real world.
The shop owner, who could be played by Ju JiHoon, knows how to spot the odd things about his customers, like dirt pouring from a man’s ears or water leaking from someone’s body. He warns HyeonJu to ignore these weird things and be wary of people she doesn’t know. The story shows that all the customers of the lamp shop are linked by a dark destiny.
The upcoming Shop of the Lamp Kdrama series is a thriller-fantasy drama. The story centers on a mystical lamp shop that connects the worlds of the living and the dead. And the story follows five people of different backgrounds, origins, occupations, and ages, ranging from teenagers to the elderly.
There is no further information regarding other casts, filming schedule, and release date. However, Shop of the Lamp will reportedly premiere on an OTT platform.
Ju Ji-hoon’s New Drama and Movie
Ju Ji hoon started this year with a new travel reality show Bros On Foot, along with three other actors, Ha Jung-woo, Yeo Jin-goo, and Choi Min-ho. Further, the actor will have two projects that will premiere this year. Those are the Korean drama Dominant Species and the Korean movie Silence.
In addition, the action is still in talks to lead a new medical drama based on the webtoon Severe Trauma Center: Golden Hour.
