BS “Music Bank” is under fire for rigging the score between LE SSERAFIM and popular trot singer Lim Young Woong, and police has now stepped in to investigate the controversy. So what really happened to popular trot singer Lim Young Woong and his score? Here’s the complete story and update.
KBS “Music Bank” Under Fire for Rigging Popular Trot Singer Lim Young Woong and LE SSERAFIM Scores
It has only been a little over 3 weeks after LE SSERAFIM debut with their single “FEARLESS” , but the new rookie must face numerous scandals and allegations.
After previously facing the massive scandal of member Kim Garam, LE SSERAFIM is now a head-to-head controversy with Korea’s most popular trot singer, Lim Young Woong, and it’s all thanks to KBS “Music Bank.”
What Happened Behind KBS “Music Bank” Controversy?
KBS “Music Bank” revealed on its May 13 episode that LE SSERAFIM had defeated popular trot singer Lim Young Woong. During the episode, HYBE new girl group LE SSERAFIM came out at first place, winning over Lim Young Woong with a 7881 score.
Indeed, it is never a problem for a junior to defeat their senior in music shows. However, KBS “Music Bank” score of Lim Young Woong and LE SSERAFIM became a controversy when it showed 0 points for Lim Young Woong TV broadcast appearance. According to this score, it means that Lim Young Woong’s “If We Ever Meet Again” has never appeared on any KBS TV and radio programs or digital content during May 2 – 8 tracking weeks.
This score has been an appalling result, knowing how much Lim Young Woong has been incredibly popular in South Korea. Viewers began wondering just how much TV and radio appearance LE SSERAFIM has done to gain 5348 scores and whether Lim Young Woong has never truly appeared on the KBS broadcast system.
KBS responded to these complaints on May 18 by stating that Lim Young Woong popular title song, “If We Ever Meet Again,” received 0 radio plays during the tracking weeks.
Dispatch Revealed the Truth Behind KBS “Music Bank” Statement on Scoring Controversy
However, on May 19, Dispatch refuted KBS response to their “Music Bank” controversy with additional evidence. According to Dispatch, a comprehensive search through the song list played during each KBS radio program shows different results.
Apparently, Lim Young Woong popular song, “If We Ever Meet Again”, has appeared on the following KBS radio programs:
- “With Kim Hye Young” – May 4
- “Seol Bam with Park So Hyun” – May 4
- “Lim Baek Chun’s 100 Music” – May 7
Still, KBS refuted Dispatch’s evidence by saying that the above programs are not included in the scoring system.
“The radio broadcast score is calculated using only seven KBS Cool FM radio programs. Aside from these seven programs, other KBS radio programs do not factor into our scores.”

Popular Singer Lim Young Woong Reached 1 Million Sale and Topping Gaon Chart, and Still Lost – WHY?
At the same time, KBS “Music Bank” score became a bigger issue and controversy after knowing that Lim Young Woong “If We Ever Meet Again” album had sold over 1 million physical copies during his first-week sales.
Not only that, Lim Young Woong popular “If We Ever Meet Again” album has also topped at #1 Gaon’s Weekly Digital Streaming Chart for the tracking week.
These records play a huge part in KBS “Music Bank” scoring system. That is because KBS “Music Bank” consists of 60% digital score, 20% broadcast score, 10% viewer panel survey, 5% physical album sales, and 5% of social media score as abovementioned.
It means that by the above scoring system, popular trot singer Lim Young Woong has surpassed LE SSERAFIM in terms of digital performances and physical album sales. Therefore, even if the above rebuttal from KBS is true, it is deemed almost impossible for Lim Young Woong to lose simply because of its broadcast point, which only takes 20%.
Therefore, Lim Young Woong’s fan club demands a further explanation and investigation of how a song that has been intensely in the lead based on digital score and physical album sales can lose just because of its broadcast point.
Police Steps in to Investigate Lim Young Woong and LE SSERAFIM Scoring Controversy
Since the scoring controversy of Lim Young Woong and LE SSERAFIM on KBS “Music Bank” kept on rising, an official petition finally emerged.
On May 29, Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station received a petition for the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission. The petition demanded an official investigation regarding the controversy revolving around Lim Young Woong and LE SSERAFIM score on KBS “Music Bank”.
