KBS “Music Bank” Producer Officially Charged for the 2022 Score Manipulation Controversy

On August 24, Korean media reported that KBS producers had been officially charged for manipulating “Music Bank” scores.

Following the official investigation about the previous 2022 score manipulation controversy on KBS “Music Bank”, the legal case has officially started.

The Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station, previously in charge of the investigation, has filed the related case. They had received all the related materials from KBS and deemed that they had indeed manipulated the score.

Previously, the 2022 score manipulation controversy started after fans found it strange when Lim Young Woong lost to LE SSERAFIM with a shocking score gap.

Despite scoring higher than LE SSERAFIM in the digital and overall music scores, Lim Young Woong gained 0 points for broadcast score. It means that Lim Young Woong’s song had never appeared on any KBS TV or radio program.

Since the broadcast score weighed 20% of the whole scoring portion, LE SSERAFIM managed to win over Lim Young Woong. And it was all simply because they got a higher score of 5348 points ahead of Lim Young Woong’s 0 broadcast point. And this became an issue because fans started wondering whether Lim Young Woong’s song had never truly appeared on any of KBS’s programs.

Then, Dispatch finally revealed that Lim Young Woong’s song actually appeared on several KBS radio programs. Still, KBS continued refuting that the programs mentioned were not included in the requirements of the scoring system.

“The radio broadcast score is calculated using only seven KBS Cool FM radio programs. Aside from these seven programs, other KBS radio programs do not factor into our scores.”
