Korean actors Kim Jae Wook and Jung Ga Ram have received enticing offers to star in the highly anticipated historical drama, Tangeum (working title).
Kim Jae Wook and Jung Ga Ram Receive Offers for New Historical Drama TANGEUM
The Coffee Prince star Kim Jae Wook and Jung Ga Ram from Love Alarm are currently considering roles in the upcoming historical drama Tangeum. Previous reports have hinted at discussions with Jo Bo Ah and Lee Jae Wook for potential roles as well. Lee Jae Wook received an offer for the role of Hong Rang, while Jo Bo Ah offered the lead role of Jae Yi.
Tangeum is an adaptation of the first and bestselling novel of the same name by Jang Da Hye. This promising drama that rich historical setting has an intriguing storyline. It blends a thrilling mystery and romance that will captivate audiences.
Set in the Joseon era, this mystery-romance drama tells the tale of a long-lost son who mysteriously reappears, sparking his half-sister’s determination to uncover the truth behind his childhood disappearance.
The Roles
Kim Jae Wook as Grand Prince Han Pyeong
Actor Kim Jae Wook received an offer for the role of the enigmatic Grand Prince Han Pyeong, the sole brother of the current King.
Unlike his politically driven brother, the King, Grand Prince Han Pyeong sought solace and indulged his obsession in the world of art. His devotion to art led him kept young children hidden underground for extended periods of time. He would use chemical concoctions to lighten their skin before tattooing them.
Furthermore, Grand Prince Han Pyeong used an amulet as protection against misfortune, ensuring the King and his faction’s stability. This character adds intrigue and complexity to the narrative, heightening anticipation and overall appeal.
Jung Ga Ram as Mu Jin
Jung Ga Ram received an offer for the role of Mu Jin. He is a noble-born individual whose life underwent a dramatic transformation following a family tragedy. His body smelled of ink, yet he was well-behaved.
The wealthy merchant family of Min Sang adopted him in exchange for 2,000 Nyang when his family was crumbled. Unfortunately, his adoptive parents neglected him, leading him to find solace on the outskirts. Moreover, as he carried a knife in his heart, he dreamed of topping the Danju (merchant guild’s owner in Joseon Dynasty).
If Kim Jae Wook accepts the role, Tangeum will mark his first foray into historical dramas in 15 years. His last historical drama was The Kingdom of the Winds. For Jung Ga Ram, this project will potentially be his debut in the historical drama genre.
Production
Kim Hong Seon will direct the upcoming drama. His exceptional works include The Voice, Money Heist: Korea, Decoy: part 1, Decoy: part 2, and The Guest.
In addition, if Kim Jae Wook confirms, this will be a reunion for director Kim Hong Seon and the actor. They previously worked together in the 2017 drama, The Guest.
Adding further talent to the team, screenwriter Kim Jin Ah will pen the script. She is known for her work on Apple TV+’sTV+’s Dr. Brain. Finally, ACEMAKER will handle the production.
