South Korea is grieving because of one of its worst fire disasters in over a decade: Uljin wildfire. Due to these circumstances, over 20 Korean actors and celebrities decided to step in with their exemplary donation to help relieve the burden of Uljin wildfire victims
Uljin Wildfire: WORST Fire Disaster in South Korea in 20 Years, Destroying Over 53,000 Acres of Land
Just when you think that the wildfire scene in Jirisan Korean drama is frightening, the actual fire disaster had happened recently in Uljin, South Korea.
Thousands of South Korean citizens had fallen victim to the angry fire spreading in Uljin, a county in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. The fire disaster broke out on March 4 and has destroyed more than 53,000 acres of land and burned down 570 houses and facilities reported on Tuesday. As a visual comparison, the Uljin wildfire has basically destroyed land with the size of 30,000 soccer fields, from Uljin to Samcheok, Gangwon-do.
Uljin wildfire is the worst fire disaster in South Korea for a decade. Lasting for almost a week, the fire disaster has forced over 7,400 people to escape their homes. In addition, it has also burned down the houses of over 1,075 people, according to Korea JoongAng Daily on Sunday. As a result, these wildfire victims must evacuate to 28 emergency shelters in public facilities and schools nearby.
Indeed, Uljin wildfire has become the worst fire disaster in South Korea in more than two decades since wildfire in 2000.
15+ Korean Actors Stepping in with Exemplary Donation to the Wildfire Victims
Due to the gravity of this fire disaster in South Korea, the authorities have dispatched tens of thousands of personnel, including firefighters, police, coast guards and military soldiers. They have also continuously sent relief goods for the victims, including COVID-19 prevention items.
Therefore, supporting the government of South Korea to relieve the burden of Uljin wildfire victims, these 15+ Korean actors decided to step in and make exemplary donation.
1. IU (Lee Ji Eun)
First on the list we have one of Korea’s best idol actress with successful career, IU. On March 5, the Hope Bridge Association of the National Disaster Relief announced that IU had made 100 million won (approximately 82,000 USD) to support the temporary shelter and housing for Uljin wildfire victims.

2. Kim Go Eun
On the same day, “Goblin” actress Kim Go Eun also made 50 million won donation to the same association, Hope Bridge. The actress’ contribution will be beneficial to support the victims and recovery of the Uljin wildfire in South Korea.
“I am truly worried for the people who have lost their homes due to the wildfire. I really hope that the fire is quickly extinguished and does not spread further. That is why hopefully that this can be of generous assistance to the local residents who have fallen victims, and to the firefighters as well.”

3. Lee Byung Hun
Thirdly, we have one of the most respected South Korean actors, Lee Byung Hun, with his generous donation for the worst fire disaster in South Korea, the Uljin wildfire.
On March 6, Hope Bridge Association announced that Lee Byung Hun had made 100 million won donation for the cause. And this donation will be useful for emergency relief and temporary housing for the victims of the Uljin wildfire who had lost their homes.
4. Lee Hyeri
The next on the list of Korean actors who made donation for the Uljin wildfire in South Korea was actress and member of Girls’ Day, Lee Hyeri.
Further in their announcement, the Hope Bridge Association mentioned that, apparently, Lee Hyeri was among the firsts to call them when the fire broke out on Friday. She asked the association how to best help the victim and decided to make donation of 50 million. Her donation will provide aid to the firefighters and children from low-income families.

The next day after the fire broke out on Friday, “Doom at Your Service” actress Park Bo Young also donated 50 million won. The actress made her donation to the same association to create temporary shelter and housing for the victims. It will also help provide emergency relief kits and support thousands of firefighters who have been fighting relentlessly in challenging situations.
7. Lee Je Hoon
Then, on March 6, Hope Bridge Association also revealed that actor Lee Je Hoon of “Hot Stove League” and “Taxi Driver” made 100 million won donation to provide emergency relief for the Uljin wildfire victims.

Along with Park Min Young, actress Shin Min Ah also made a 100 million donation to provide emergency relief goods and necessities for the wildfire victims.
10. Lee Jong Suk
Furthermore, actor Lee Jong Suk who recently revealed various trivia facts also expressed his utmost sympathy to the Uljin wildfire victims. The Korean actor made a 100 million won donation on March 7, to create mobile homes and temporary housing for the wildfire victims.
11. Song Hye Kyo
South Korea’s prominent pride actress Song Hye Kyo also made a donation to help the victims of Uljin wildfire. The actress donated 100 million won to the National Red Cross of South Korea on March 7. Amidst her busy schedule, Song Hye Kyo hoped that the victims could return to their daily lives as soon as possible.

Singer and former Highlight member Yong Jun Hyung donated 10 million won via Hope Bridge Association. The celebrity posted the information via his Instagram and stated, “I want to be of even a little bit. I hope everyone is safe.”

In addition, South Korea’s top host and comedian Yoo Jae Suk donated 100 million won to provide the victims’ emergency relief kits and cover expenses for the Uljin wildfire.
Jay Park
In the middle of building his new agency and busy collaboration schedule with IU, Jay Park also participated in helping the Uljin wildfire victims. The singer-entrepreneur shared his donation certificate on his Instagram on March 8 with a caption, “Let’s live peacefully while helping each other. Please.”

Moreover, South Korean host Jun Hyun Moo made his donation to the victims of the Uljin wildfire via the Community Chest of Korea. His contribution will help cover expenses for wildfire recovery and victim support.
