However, before getting the high tension of the star-studded Korean blockbuster movie, here are some trivia facts you need to know about Decibel and its cast.
Facts about Korean Blockbuster Movie DECIBEL
1. The idea came from the swimming pool
In an interview with tvN Movies, Director Hwang In-ho revealed that the idea of creating a sound-activated bomb came to him from a childhood experience at a swimming pool.
“At the swimming pool, we swim and take a break according to the sound of the whistle. The idea of a sound-reacting bomb came to me like that. The sound-reacting bomb is different from regular bombs. Not even the protagonist can control sound. The goal of the sound-reacting bomb is not to inflict damage, but to look back on a certain day. I designed the bomb because I needed it to be out of control, even for the protagonist.”

2. Lee Jong-suk froze the set with his acting
“It was his first day on set, and we were working on a soliloquy. At first, he was exhausted, and I was worried. But he changed when the camera rolled and vented unbelievable energy like a reckless train.”

3. A meticulously crafted character for Kim Rae-won
Kim Rae-won portrays a Navy Commander in this action-packed Korean movie, presenting him with the challenge to showcase his exceptional skills.
“My character struggles for six hours after receiving a phone call saying that I have become the target of terror. The character was already meticulously crafted by Director Hwang, so I put more emphasis on the character’s reality within swirling events.”

4. No stunt-man nor CGI during the car chasing
In Kim Rae-won’s previous movies, the action scenes mainly were fighting. In Decibel, he also did car chasing, underwater bombing action, and jumping off high elevations, in addition to lots of fighting scenes.
“It was daunting. For example, there are car-chasing and car-crashing scenes in the movie. The scenes were initially planned to be completed by CGI. After discussing with the Director, we did the scenes for real. I actually drove the car myself in the car-crashing scenes. People asked whether I was scared, but it might be harder for my co-passenger Sang-hoon.”

5. Kim Rae-won’s acting skill is proven high quality
“The character Rae-won plays goes back and forth between a strict soldier to an ordinary man. He did a fantastic job acting from being natural to being a fierce warrior. I thought he was the character himself. As you can see, I frequently captured his back view in the movie. His back portrait delivers the weight of responsibility he has on his shoulders.”

6. Lee Jong-suk rouses tension only by voice
Lee Jong-suk plays a terrorist and Navi Noncom with Mensa-level intelligence. He remains hidden in the first half of the movie. Fortunately, his voice is quite characteristic.
“My character designed the bombs and also anonymously calls Rae-won’s character in the beginning. I remained in the shadows till mid-way of the movie. Hence, I thought the most about how to stay hidden… Thankfully my vocal identity was well concealed in the movie.”

7. The script fooled Lee Jong-suk
In Decibel, we can see how incredible actor Lee Jong-suk in several action scenes. However, he should not have those scenes at first.
“When I first got the script, there were no action scenes for my part. Then I began killing one man. Then another. Action scenes multiplied. I needed more preparation in advance and had to get help from the action director. My actions revolve around the wild struggle for survival.”
Lee Jong-suk
8. Lee Jong-suk takes the movie because of Kim Rae-won
It is said that one of the reasons Lee Jong-suk decided to take on this movie is because he trusts Kim Rae-won. During the filming, both actors seem to get closer.
“I don’t know what he thinks, but I feel we have become very much closer. Not a single actor or actor-would-be would not have watched Rae-won’s work. He is that respectable. After every scene or expression, I would ask him for his opinion. He helped me a lot.”
Lee Jong-suk
“It was my first time working with Jong-suk, and I greatly enjoyed it. We didn’t appear together that often. Jong-suk and I meet in a small number of important scenes in the movie. He was very prudent at the set. His passion inspired me to act harder, hence exploding our synergy.”

I watch the movie becos of LJS and KJW, both are very good actor. I was disappointed that it hide LJS for 1st half of the movie but give so much screen time to the actor (as reporter) whose acting is terrible (he is better in variety), felt cheated cos the promo is on LJS n KJW.
