Lee Jae Wook and Jo Bo Ah Are In Talks to Star in the New Historical Thriller Romance Drama TANGEUM
TANGEUM Korean Drama to Cast Lee Jae Wook and Jo Bo Ah
The upcoming historical drama will be based on the famous web novel of the same name, Tangeum: Swallowing Gold. It was the first work of author Jang Da Hye that finally complete after five years in 2021. The graphic novel/webtoon is in production and is expected to be released sometime in the spring of next year. In the meantime, the drama adaptation is in the casting phase.
Korean news outlets have exclusively reported that two prominent actors, Lee Jae Wook and Jo Bo Ah, have been cast to star in the upcoing new historical drama, Tangeum.
According to an exclusive report by Sports World on April 19, the Alchemy of Souls actor Lee Jae Wook has been cast to play the male lead of the upcoming drama, Hong Rang. If the actor accepts the offer, it would be his second historical drama after Alchemy of Souls.
Meanwhile, according to Xports News exclusively report, actress Jo Bo Ah has also been cast as the female lead of the upcoming drama, Jae Yi. And if the actress accepts the offer, it would be her first historical drama since her acting debut.
It is highly anticipated that Lee Jae Wook and Jo Bo Ah will collaborate in the new drama Tangeum. However, according to OSEN on April 19, Jo Bo Ah’s agency KeyEast has responded to the reports and stated,
“We are positively considering appearing in Tangeum.”

“We are reviewing the proposal after receiving it.”

New Historical Drama Based on Web Novel Tangeum: Swallowing Gold (2021)
Tangeum: Swallowing Gold is a mystery-thriller romance drama with the backdrop of the late Joseon period. It follows the story of a family that becomes wealthy merchants through the art trade in the late Joseon Dynasty.
The main characters are half-brother and sister, Jae Yi and Hong Rang, who have been close and caring for each other since childhood. However, Hong Rang (8) suddenly disappeared one night when he tried to look for Camellia flowers for his sister, Jae Yi (9).
The return of Hong Rang after a decade without his childhood memory and true identity became mysteries to his surroundings, including Jae Yi.
Jae Yi was born to a surrogate mother. She is an intelligent girl with a charming appearance and mysterious beauty. However, in contrast to her beauty, she has a lousy personality with a high level of fraudulent skills.
Expectations are high on Lee Jae Wook and Jo Bo Ah’s chemistry, as they reportedly will lead the historical suspense romance drama Tangeum. Watch the teaser video of the story below.
Release Date
Tangeum is set to have 16 episodes and is expected to be aired in the second half of this year. Director Kim Hong Seon will be directing the historical drama. He was the man with the megaphone of the hit dramas Voice, Warrior Baek Dong Soo, and Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area.
Meanwhile, writer Kim Jin Ah, who wrote the script of Doctor Brain, will write the script. In addition, the top 5 Korean film investment distributors, Ace Maker, will produce the historical drama.
