On September 29, the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the 50th International Emmy Awards nominations in 2022 to honor excellence in television programming that is produced and aired outside of the United States.
In this year’s International Emmy Awards, South Korea received two nominations for Best Actor and Best Telenovela.
Korean Actor Lee Sun Gyun for Best Performance by an Actor
Actor Lee Sun Gyun has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actor for his role in the sci-fi thriller series “Dr. Brain” on Apple TV+. In this category, the actor will compete with four other candidates. They are Sverrir Gudnason of “A Royal Secret” (Sweden), Scoot McNairy of “Narcos: Mexico” (Mexico), and Dougray Scott of “Irvine Welsh’s Crime” (Britain).
Moreover, actor Lee Sun Gyun is the second actor from South Korea who received a nomination in this category. In 2011, actor Jang Hyuk nabbed a nomination for the drama “The Slave Hunters.”
Lee is one of the prominent actors in South Korea who stars in numerous hit dramas and films. Some of his hit films and dramas were “Parasite” (2019), “My Mister” (2018), and more.
Korean Drama “The King’s Affection” for Best Telenovela
Meanwhile, the Korean drama “The King’s Affection,” has been nominated for Best Telenovela. Its stars, Park Eun Bin and SF9’s Rowoon, who took the lead couple, have won several awards for the drama and roles.

“This nomination is entirely due to the support and enthusiasm of our viewers in Korea and abroad. We’ll keep working tirelessly to create K-dramas that can receive even more love.”

The South Korean drama “The King’s Affection” will compete with three other international series. Those are: “Nos Tempos Do Imperador” (Brazil), “Two Lives” (Spain), and “You Are My Hero” (China).
The 2022 International Emmy Awards will announce its winners on November 21 in New York City.
