Facts about Korean Film MEN OF PLASTIC
1. Been planned for eight years
Eight years ago, Ma Dong-seok started planning for Men of Plastic. Using the beauty business in Apgujeong as a theme, he wanted to feature the people there trying to survive and succeed. So he even interviewed people from the beauty business industry.
2. MEN OF PLASTIC is rated for 12 years and above
Ma Dong-seok revealed that the reason Men of Plastic was rated 12 years old is that he wanted to produce a Korean film that can be watched and enjoyed by parents and children.
3. The perfect “light” Korean movie
Men of Plastic was produced with one specific concept: a film that the audience could enjoy, relieve stress, and feel happy about. Therefore, the storyline and characters were created to be lighter and less serious.
4. MEN OF PLASTIC is inspired by a real person
Another interesting fact is that the characters in Men of Plastic are inspired by a real person. The character of Dae-guk is inspired by an interesting person who has been unemployed for a long time. Ma Dong-seok observed the person and discovered what he wanted to do in Africa. Moreover, the character of Ji-woo is basically inspired by another person, even though they are not 100% similar.
5. Ma Dong-seok changed more than 30 sets of clothes
In Men of Plastic, the character Ma Dong-seok is playing, Kang Dae-guk, really pays attention to his looks. Ma Dong-seok revealed that this is the film where he has changed his clothes more often. He tried his best to suit the character, so he did research, including the looks, the way the character talks, the idea behind the business, and many more aspects.
“To change into over 30 sets of clothes over 2 hours is really… I don’t really like changing clothes, so it was challenging. But I think it suits my character.”

Besides sounding like ad-libs, there are some memorable repeated lines, such as “I’m the boss of Artbox” and “Let’s go, to the Room of Truth,” said by Kang Dae-guk. However, there is one that he repeats at the end of almost every line: “You get what I mean, right?”
Even Jung Kyung-ho was “brainwashed” and kept saying, “You get what I mean, right?” during his Three Meals a Day: Doctor filming.
8. “Mouth action” is more challenging than “physical action”
Kang Dae-guk often uses words to resolve everything. Therefore, Ma Dong-seok has to adapt to the character and talk more than he used to. He revealed that “mouth action” is more challenging than “physical action,” which he used to do in his previous films like The Roundup.

“Being able to work together makes me feel really happy. It brings up old memories as well. I’m glad I chose this film. Before we started, we were like, “Let’s do our best,” and he (Ma Dong-seok) basically set everything up and gave me the chance to work with everyone, as well as meet the director. And I had a fun time filming Men of Plastic, so this was a priceless experience.”
