Minari Wins Best Foreign Language Film at 78th Golden Globes Awards in 2021
Since its debut at the Sundance film festival in 2020, ‘Minari’ has been nominated in multiple awards. On February 28, the 78th Golden Globes Awards finally announced ‘Minari’ as the winner of the Best Motion Picture in Foreign language.
In the Golden Globes awards for the foreign-language category, ‘Minari’ was nominated together with other four foreign films. They are “Another Round” from Denmark, “La Llorona” from Guatemala, “The Life Ahead” from Italy, and “Two of Us” from France.
The movie ‘Minari’ tells a story of a family from South Korea chasing their American Dream in the United States in the 1980s. It is a semi-autobiographical film, as it is based on director Lee Isaac Chung’s childhood real=life experience with star Steven Yeun, Yeri Han, Yuh-Jung Youn, Noel Kate Cho, Alan Kim, Scott Haze, and Will Patton.

Language of the heart
After winning the award, Chung conveyed his gratitude to the cast, team, and family in his speech. Moreover, he said, ” ‘Minari’ is about a family trying to learn how to speak a language of its own. It goes deeper than any American language and any foreign language. It’s a language of the heart.”
He added, “I’m trying to learn it myself and to pass it on, and I hope we’ll all learn to speak this language of love to each other, especially this year.”
