Global broadcasting platform Netflix has reportedly banned its cast and crew from mentioning even the slightest thing about “Squid Game” Season 2. This extreme prohibition is considered excessive, for it will only harm the series and the actors themselves. So, what happened to Netflix, and what’s the reason behind this exaggerated banning? Delve into a more extensive story in the following report.
Netflix Reportedly Bans Cast and Crew from Mentioning “Squid Game” Season 2
It has been several months since the last announcement of Netflix new cast lineup for “Squid Game” Season 2. Everyone suddenly went silent, with nothing to share about the upcoming production, and this is not without reason.
Apparently, Netflix has banned its cast and crew from making even the slightest mention of “Squid Game” Season 2.
On September 22, Korean media outlet TenAsia reported severe criticism against the global broadcasting company Netflix. According to the report, Netflix had issued a widespread prohibition on its cast and crew from mentioning anything about the upcoming production of “Squid Game” Season 2.
However, the prohibition has been overly exaggerated. In fact, it may only cause damage to the series and their actors’ reputations.
What Happened to the Cast and Crew?
Further into the report, TenAsia explained that Netflix has banned cast and production crew from stating even general expressions about “Squid Game” Season 2.
Normally, when actors have officially confirmed their appearance in a project, they would appear on interviews and raise the viewers’ anticipation with appealing remarks about the show. However, TenAsia revealed that recent interviews between the cast of Netflix’s “Squid Game” Season 2 and journalists have been awkward and tense.
It is even more surprising that the cast members and production crew can only bow their heads and refuse to answer when discussing the upcoming season. And this happens even when their appearance in the project has been public knowledge.
These actors cannot even give general remarks such as, “I’m having fun in the filming process,” “I had no hesitation in deciding my appearance,” or “Please look forward to the upcoming project.”
This is because Netflix has also banned them from making such remarks. They called it the “Squid Game Code”.
Is Netflix Going Overboard in Protecting “Squid Game” Season 2?
“Squid Game” has been a global franchise that has attracted the attention of worldwide viewers. The hype for Season 2 has started even when Netflix did not plan on creating a 2nd Season. Even director Hwang Dong Hyuk once said that “Squid Game” Season 2 is possible because of the public’s demands.
Therefore, Korean media believes that Netflix has been going overboard in protecting the sanctity of its upcoming project. Indeed, the company must enforce any effort to prevent any leaks from the production process. However, banning its cast and production crew from simply mentioning or expressing general expressions even when their appearances have been confirmed is considered excessive and exaggerated.
As a result, the actors who had confirmed their appearance looked speechless every time “Squid Game” Season 2 came up. Then, they became embarrassed for not being able to say anything, even the general expressions. At the end of the day, these actors and the production crew simply apologized for their extreme caution.
“Netflix’s interference and censorship of ‘Squid Game 2’ has already crossed the line. Actors and reporters have become like Hong Gil-dong in front of the all-powerful Netflix. They cannot call their father and brother as their own.”
Ten Asia.
