NewJeans to Feature Pharrell Williams in Japan Debut Single, “Supernatural”
Kpop 4th generation monster rookie, NewJeans, is making a sensation amid the recent plagiarism accusations and controversies between their parent companies. In the upcoming Japan debut song, “Supernatural,” NewJeans will reportedly feature iconic global pop star, Pharrell Williams.
On May 13, Korean media report revealed that global pop star Pharrell Williams would be participating in composing and writing lyrics for NewJeans Japan debut song. According to the announcement, it was a way for the “Happy” singer to support NewJeans for their journey in the entertainment industry.
But was it really true? Did Pharrell Williams really create a new song for NewJeans’ new album, just like Charlie Puth did for BABYMONSTER?
A Different Kind of Collab
Unfortunately, this will be a different kind of collab between the two global music icons.
In the official announcement, ADOR further explained about NewJeans upcoming Japan single, “Supernatural.” According to ADOR, the new song achieved perfect harmony, giving you an excellent listening experience that blends the music’s nostalgic melodies and NewJeans members’ emotional vocals.
This is the result of the hard work of Producer 250, who managed to reinterpret the iconic ad-libs and bridge from Pharrell Williams’ 2009 song with Japanese singer Manami, “Back of My Mind,” turning this incredible track into a new masterpiece using a new jack swing style.
Therefore, no. Pharrell Williams did not exactly write, compose, or create this new song for NewJeans. His name simply appeared in the credits as the original creator of “Back of My Mind,” the song used as the base of NewJeans’ single.
So, are you disappointed knowing about these collab details? Or does it simply not matter so much for you? Please share your excitement about NewJeans’ Japan debut in the comments below.
