NewJeans Delivers Groundbreaking Performance at Gyeongbokgung Palace for 2024 Korea On Stage
The South Korean Cultural Heritage Administration and National Trust for Cultural Heritage are hosting the “2024 Korea On Stage – New Generation” (Korea On Stage 2024) in collaboration with KBS Korea Broadcasting. And the highlight performance of this event will be by the Kpop 4th generation monster rookie and the controversial Cinderella, NewJeans.
On May 16, Korean media outlet Sports Chosun reported that NewJeans had confirmed a groundbreaking performance at the Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seoul. According to the report, NewJeans members recently completed a pre-recording for the special stage at the palace’s legendary Geunjeongjeon Hall.
Yet, unfortunately, Hyein was unable to join the stage due to foot injury.
Breaking History as the First Kpop Girl Group Performance at the Palace’s Geunjeongjeon Hall
Further in the report, Sports Chosun also highlighted that NewJeans has broken history as the first Kpop girl group to ever perform at the Geunjeongjeon Hall of Gyeongbokgung Palace.
Geunjeongjeon Hall is a palace building where the Joseon Dynasty held momentous national ceremonies back then. Therefore, it is now designated as a National Treasure of South Korea.
Due to this nature, it is incredibly rare for a public performance to be held in this area, even after the palace was opened in 1954.
But now, the Cultural Heritage Administration has specially opened Geunjeongjeon for NewJeans’ performance. That is why this historical moment is drawing significant attention.
As the first Kpop girl group to perform a special stage at Geunjeongjeon Hall, NewJeans will deliver their iconic song, “Cool With You.”
Notably, the performance will feature hanbok costumes with a modern reinterpretation of traditional designs, including dansam jeogori (a type of jacket), saran skirt, and daran skirt, as well as beoseon-style shoes and goddess-like hair accessories, highlighting the beauty of Korean aesthetics.
The spectacular performance, set against the night scenery of Geunjeongjeon, aims to showcase the grandeur of cultural heritage and the prestige of Kpop simultaneously.
