Plagiarism Accusations Against ADOR Girl Group NewJeans Members and Songs
In the middle of Kpop’s Cinderella tale and the massive dispute between HYBE and ADOR CEO Min Heejin, members of NewJeans must once again face accusations of plagiarism in their songs and concepts.
On May 21, various reports emerged about the similarities of the concepts between members of NewJeans and a Mexican group called ‘Jeans.’ A January report from Mexican newspaper El Siglo highlighted the fact that the Kpop rookie NewJeans might have taken inspiration from the Mexican group.
According to the report, almost all visual concepts—from the outfits and hairstyles—of both groups are highly similar. Therefore, it was entirely possible that this Mexican group, was the source of inspiration for NewJeans.
Jeans is a Mexican group that debuted in 1995. This girl group was active until 2008 and underwent a complete reformation in 2015. At the moment, this Mexican girl group is still performing under a new name, JNS.
Due to these similarities, members of NewJeans must face yet another plagiarism accusation, not only against their songs but also the visual concept. That is especially concerning after ADOR CEO Min Heejin previously launched a massive complaint on how ILLIT had copied her concept formula for NewJeans. After these images went viral, netizens began accusing NewJeans that the members are simply Min Heejin’s plagiarism attempt on the Mexican group Jeans.
Official Fact: Mexican Group Jeans Finally Speaks Out!
Following the massive plagiarism accusations against NewJeans members, as well as their songs and concept, a fan brought the issue to TikTok. They started tagging the official account of the Mexican group. Then, the fan explained that NewJeans members are currently facing online attacks from fans.
Surprisingly, the official account of the Mexican group, Jeans, eventually replied to the explanation. And according to the group, they expressed their joy that the new generation can finally experience the amazing vibes of the 90s.
Still, what do you think about the issue? Are the similarities simply drawing inspiration? Or do you also believe that it’s a plagiarism attempt from ADOR CEO Min Heejin as NewJeans’ producer? Please share your thoughts in the comments.
